Default MS3 Basic VVT Swap into 97

Hello,

I followed the excellent VVT swap megathread and have a VVT motor in my 97 chassis. Naturally aspirated. I have a 96-97 MS3 Basic in the car that was running the 97 motor that was in the car with no issues for several years. I have read so much and perhaps have understood not enough.

I think my question boils down to what combo of firmware and basemaps should the car be on? I think Rev's documentation indicates that all his ECUs are on 1.4.0, and that is what is on the ECU. Trubokitty indicates that the basemaps are developed on the 1.4.1 firmware.

When I load the basemap for an 01-05 VVT motor from MS3 basic, the car won't start. When I load the basemap from trubokitty for the 01-05 the car starts but I am chasing a sync loss issue while cranking. (I'm chasing the usual suspects on the sync loss but am at a loss.) Once it starts I don't get any sync errors; only while cranking.

I'm running out of mechanical causes for the sync loss and have seen some recent threads where people have solved them with ECU changes and I'd rather not spend that $1000 but if that's what it takes then I guess here we come.

All thoughts appreciated, even non constructive ones.

Which board version are you using? The documentation clearly says not to try and load any basemaps you find on the internet.

I'm not sure; it's serial number 12330. I shot you an email last night with the current tune and a log; if you want to chat there happy to do so.

Wouldn't be the first time I screwed something up and had to fix it by throwing my wallet at it.

This is why Reverant is the frickin man. He fixed some settings and car is starting with 0 sync losses first turn; it ain't perfect but it ain't tuned. Thanks!
