Default Mspnp2 1.8vvt swap

Hi,

I recently I blew my -91 1.6 turbo engine and since I live in sweden there arent alot of motors for sale, one of my friend has a 1.8 vvt engine though which he is willing to sell me for cheap. As i have understood my current ecu will work with this motor except the vvt function.

are there any dangers with running the motor without controlling the vvt? I dont want to buy a new ms due to the swedish inspection regulations.

Has anyone done this? What was your approach? Am i better off just waiting until someone sells a 1.6 motor?

best regards
davinci

Do it, there's a megathread about putting a vvt into an na and there's no harm leaving the VVT unplugged.
That thread was my bible when i did my swap and it worked like magic.

alright! Thanks for the input, do you have any other tips before buying the engine? Like motormounts or other bits I would need to purchase? Im in swedish ”college” so I would like to cut corners where it is safe and possible. The car is not daily driven and more of a toy.

my "tips" would be to find a return style fpr (being in europe this shouldnt be too hard, PN BP5B-13-280) and do all of the maintenence you can afford to do to the engine while its out of the car. Also maybe find out what caused your 1.6 to die and avoid it because the vvt has much higher compression.

basically In sweden we cant modify our cars in any way and they are inspected yearly, they measure your exhaust gases, check the engine etc etc. Due to this I have to remove my mspnp2 so I can install the oem injectors, maf, exhaust system and intake. If i have a hard wired megasquirt it would take much longer to remove it.

yes, but I think it's a car related problem. I've followed every single guide, flipping pins in the ecu connector, but nothing helped.
I could also pull the dash and run a wire straight to the ecu board, but I'm a lazy ***
