Default MS Current draw? Remotely powered possility???

My plan is to power up my MS and burn the settings to it. Mainly because I want to feel like I am doing something for my car whilst we are parted.

(It is in the South Island - 2hrs plane ride, but my M.S is under my pillow)

So I wanted to remotely power it but wonder what the current draw is.

I plan to use either a Laptop powerpack( 12v dc 3amps) or a electric staple gun powerpack (12v dc 300 mA)

I assume the Laptop pack would be best but don't want to chop it up if the staple gun pack would work

The plan was to put the + to pin 28 and the - to pins 7-9.

This way it would save me time once I get back to my wheels and also the risk of busting coil packs

Any reasons why this wont work??

Do you have a Stim? If so, use it. As for current draw, I duno. I'm pretty sure it doesn't pull ****. I have a 2 or 3 amp fuse on mine FWIW.

You can simply unplug the wires that power the coil, then do whatever you want to the MS without risking anything.

One of the things I did was install kill switches. 1 for the fuel pump and 1 for the main power to MS. This gives you the option of having a switch to turn on/off things when you're messing with MS and have a security option for your ride. Just a thought.

Thanks for the info

I have done that already. I will have a mS power switch, and I already have a fuel pump switch as well as a push button starter switch installed in my ashtray. Its real James bond s#!t, flip open the ashtray and poke your finger in! Makes me smile everytime.

However none of this is helping when my car is 1500 k's away.

Well I got annoyed so I sure hope I dont blow any s#!T up. But this is what I've done
First is the powerpack pulled apart- the inside is the copper cased circuit board to the right of the computer.

The second shot is of my very versatile soldering iron. Used to melt around the screws cos I dont have a female torx head(stupid F@#king screws, who invented them anyways) ********.

Last pic is of completed, modded case, hope it works. Im blaming you fullas if it kills my MS!!
Now it powers my laptop and the MS at the same time!

I've been successfully using an old wall wart that is only rated for 250mA. It's powered both the JimStim and MS for as long as I've been working on them.

It's probably obvious to this crowd, but don't ever throw wall-warts away. Those of us with electronic project inclinations will end up using them someday.

You could setup a bluetooth connection with your MS and setup like a remote access to a pc that might be near it.

I have it up and running - all good in the hood!

Now I just got to find out how to configure my outputs in Megatune

Also does anyone know what the "Fetch from Ecu button" does?
It's in the bottom left of all the main settings windows.

It pulls the settings off the ECU and onto the MegaTune dialog box you're looking at. Usually only used if you have made some changes but not sent them to the ECU, and wish not to make these changes - this'll get you back to where you started.
