Default My very own Can't get my DIYPNP started thread

As the title says, I'm having trouble getting the car started. I just put together a DIYPNP with sequential fuel. Car is a 97 with 330cc injectors, maf is still in place for the moment. I have 550s on the way back from Deatschwerks, but I'm going to hold off on them until I can make some progress with the current setup. I the settings off DIYAutotune's site for ignition and set up the Engine Constants properly.

I spent quite a while playing around with the ASE percentage and cycle settings, as well as the cranking pw settings, which are in a percentage (Cranking Pulsewidth% is what TunerStudio calls it). The best I got was every few cranks the car would start up, rev to about 1300, and then promptly die. Since TunerStudio is putting pulsewidth in % instead of ms, I can't just copy someone else's settings as a starting point, so I'm not sure where to go on that. I basically started at 0 and worked my way up until the car would sometimes start (and then die right away) before giving up.

Part of my Cranking PW (it's 90F ambient here):

Coolant (F) | Cranking PW%
61 | 300
88 | 280
109 | 260
130 | 200

I'm also pretty unsure where to go with my ASE settings because I can't tell a difference with the car dying right away.

I also have a short datalog of 4 cranks, the last where it rev'd and then died:

I'd like to think the issue lies in the settings and not elsewhere because every once in a while the engine actually does fire up and sound like a normal start.

Appreciate the help.

Edit: I should also mention that my VE table is sorta made up based on what I got from the old .VEX generator on msextra.com, and the spark table I found on a thread here (5 or 6 members said they ran it).

I am not really the best person to help, but did you try the startup map on diy's website? It started mine with 550s.

sounds like you could be dumping too much fuel if it does try to start occasionally. Use the diy startup. adjust req fuel for your injectors using 14.7 as target, and change your injector settings to sequential.

If you started with the basemap provided on the diyautotune.com build documentation, all you should of had to do is change the req_fuel and it would start right up. This is why it's all in percentages so you barely have to adjust these numbers when making injector size changes.

Any reason why you didn't start with our start up map?

Can you post up your .msq and a the actual log file from your cranking?

The reason I didn't use the msq posted on DIY is because when I open the tune, it gives the firmware doesn't match message. I copied settings from it and other people's msq's to put it together. Not my best idea.

I've attached the msq and a couple data logs. The cranking pw, ase settings, and idle settings are all the same as the startup map. The VE, spark, and AFR tables are different because I adjusted the scales. Sequential is set up based on the settings on DIY for the 99-00 Miata. Funny thing when I was playing around with it this afternoon; I had forgotten to hook up the vacuum line to the map sensor (I am still switching between the old emanage based setup and the MS) and while it didn't really idle, I was able to rev it up easily after start. With the vacuum line hooked up, it'll die if I even touch the gas after cranking.

The larger datalog shows a couple starts and revs. The second is just cranking, starting, and dying. I appreciate the help.

I am exactly in the same situation as you at the moment. I think I am missing something in the settings.

Your values are WAY WAY up high. Just to give you a rough idea, my own settings are 150 at 0*C and 80 at 96*C, on 265cc injectors at NB2 (returnless) fuel pressure.

The % of req_fuel is a joke, changing the req_fuel alone does NOT work, you need to lower your values a lot. On 330cc injectors, I would try 135 at *0C and 75 at 96*C for returnless, for NA or NB1 bump the values up by 10%. Interpolate linearly between the two points.

Yes there were numerous things wrong with my install/settings 5 months ago. One being a ridiculous vacuum leak. My car runs pretty well now. Gianic...you can't get it started? Share some details and/or make a new thread and post your msq and datalogs.

He drove over here on the stock ECU and I had a look. He had turned off bank 2 etc. Ooops. I uploaded a new MSQ and the car started and idled immediately.

does that say your pulsewidths are at 26ms max?
