Default Please help me out with Log Works

My LC-1 gage talks to MS and the readings on the Meagatune display look sort of logicall but I can't get it to talk to Log Works so it is connecting to the lap top.

The little plug termination thingy is where it has always been plugged in but just in case I removed it and reinstalled it. I also re installed the software.

My ohm meter check tells me that the cable that came with the LC-1 has continuity between 3 pins on the end connector and does not short to adjacent pins.

I used to just plug the gauge into the lap top and pull up Log works and it would read on the display. Now I get a message -

"No real time data
detected. Check serial port and connections.
Note You must down load Lm-1
log if in 9V mode etc."

The program seems to detect the current port but then fails to connect and I get the above message.

Any ideas what it could be ?

Thanks

If you're using a USB adaptor, try a complete reboot of your laptop. I tend to find (with my laptop at least) that MegaTune 'holds onto' the serial port even when it's been closed.

I sprayed DeOxit on all connections and even held the termination in with my thumb while the lap top booted up connected to the LC-1.

The same message comes up

"No real time data
detected. Check serial port and connections.
Note You must down load Lm-1
log if in 9V mode etc."

Now, when I pull the connection and click on the "connect" box again it detects no port available.

I'm running out of stuff to try ....

Yes, the LED is bright and it drives the Magatune dashboard gauge.

Oh wait a sec, just remembered something else I did to get logworks to communicate.

I enabled the FIFO buffers for the USB adaptor, without those it didn't connect. Though my laptop is a bit battered...

Not sure what those are but I have tried two adapters. Both connect via Megatune to the MS ECU but not to Log works...

I looked this up

Open the Windows Device Manager by right-clicking on "My Computer", choose "Manage" from the popup menu, and then select "Device Manager". In the right hand pane, click on the "+" next to the "Ports" section to expand the port list. Double-click the Communication Port you are using. Select the "Port Settings" tab and then click the "Advanced" button. Make sure the "Use FIFO Buffers" box at the top of the window is not checked. If you have unchecked this box, you will need to reboot the computer for the setting change to take effect.

Have not tried it yet.

Will this affect how the lap top connects with MS or will it just help with Log Works ?

Thanks

Poops any luck so far, I just picked up my laptop, and will try a few things on the way to class this afternoon. It seems really strange it communicates with MegaTune but not Log Works, my situation early on was the exact opposite. I believe this was a com port selection issue.

Too busy with grown up stuff today to mess with it.

Also figured maybe someone will chime in before I do some real damage.

I really don't want to loose my connection with Megatune

How did you fix your problem ?

The termination was open so I rigged up a similar one with a little connector of the same type.
I got the lap top to connect once but then lost the connection between the termination and the jack felt loose so eventually I had to cut off the cable, dissect it and find another bad connection or poor fit between the termination and the receptacle where it plugs into.

I still had on/off connection to the lap top and it did not seem to follow any pattern so I followed the above directions for the FIFO buffer.

That did not seem to make any difference either way but now Megatune locks up when I try to load a tune to the Megasquirt.

All in all not a very good day

Our IT guy didn't think that would have been the issue since your fine in Mega Tune. Are you able to reset back to the default, or uninstall, then reinstall the drivers for you usb adapter to get a reliable MT connection. I wonder if you could purchase a new cable from radio shack, or a fry's equivalent.

I did buy a cable from Radio schack when I first had the problem. There seems to be no difference between the two cables.

I'm not sure how the lap top decides what port it uses but that is confusing me too.

You have to have the FIFO buffers off for MS to communicate with Megatune.

It's not a big deal to swop the options over

Thanks.

Interesting - it was "on" when I first tried to change them.

Would the options change depending on what adapter I use ?
