Default Communications Issue?

Hi I have just read the sticky on the com 1 problem and followed the instruction to the letter of the law but I still cant get the software to detect the MS. It keeps coming up fail when I test the connection.

I have been into the properties and changed the port from No.4 to No.1 and no look. Then when I go into the Megatune Communication, Then settings and click find it says it found the lead on Com1 and it has ......firmware etc. But still cant get it to communicate.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks
Andy

I hadnt changed the sttings on windows but even when I do it still says failed when I try to connect. Im pretty sure I wired the ECU up correctly to the power etc but what that have any effect if it wasnt? Im clutching at straws really. The confusing thing is if I click test it says it found the COM1 at 115200 etc with ...firmware but when I click accept it still says failed.

I have thought of a couple of possibilities.

When I got the help file from Brain and installed it. The tuner studio software said beta version expired download latest version. It directed me to there site and I downloaded over the top of the existing software. Then I followed the step by step guide provided. But when asked to select MS2Extra Reel 3.0.3u. It wasnt there and then I couldnt locate MS-II Extra 3.0.3u anywhere. I clicked on MS1.....INI and realised that was wrong afterwards.

Where is this file located or can someone post it so I have it? Is this whats not allowing the MS to connect to the laptop? Using the wrong file?

Thats all I can think of

You need to use TunerStudio.

I have managed to get connected to the ECU now and I have set up the AIT, Coolant temp etc and I got to the stage of starting but it wont start.

It doesnt even sound like its even trying to fire. I did have the vTPS connected before I had it connect to the ECU and I did turn it over trying to start the car. I then unclipped the TPS and tried to fire with no luck.

Ths software is working and recongnises that its cranking but it doesnt even splutter as if its trying to start. it just keeps turning over as if there was no spark plugs and it smells really strong of petrol (Flooded).

Couple of things I want to own up to:

My injector nearest to the front must be drawing air in or leaking it out as it was slightly loose and you can here an air noise. There is no fuel spraying out though. I know this is bad but you would think it would still try and fire even like this.

The vTPS is reading the wrong way round. When I calibrated it and clicked get reading with the throttle off it read about 770. Then when I floored it and clicked get reading it read 220. The software gave the warning to say that the starting reading is higher than the full throttle figure.

These things wont be helping me I know.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like your TPS is just wired wrong.
It's conceivable that your TPS problem could potentially put you into flood clear mode, which is a total fuel kill when cranking. I would fix that first.

Your vac leak at the injector would likely cause poor idle and low load performance, possibly some misfiring and such, but would not likely cause a no start. Flooded plugs would cause a no start however. After fixing the TPS, I'd clean or replace the plugs and try again.

This is a 1.6 car? 1.6 injectors/fuel rail are super easy to service.

Also make sure you've scaled your req_fuel. Your sig says you have 550cc injectors, which are much larger than stock...

Yes Ben its a 1.6.

Should i clean the rail etc?

I have the RX7 injectors and I never had them serviced and they did have a bit of dirt or orange looking material in which I had to scrape out.

I thought the TPS was wired correct. I could flip the TPS round which in theory would put the figures the other way round I think?

I went through testing the TPS with a multimeter to determine which lead was which. Wasnt it with you Ben? I could be wrong but I was quite confident I ahd the wires right.

I will remove the spark plug later today an try to start it again. Would it not try and fire if I unplug the TPS? That way would it not rule out that part?

you want to look at your tps% gauge and see what it's reading...if it's over the flood clear mode setting (typically 70%), then it wont spark when cranking.

No it will spark when cranking, but won't fuel. It's an attempt to de-foul the plugs.

I wouldn't recommend using dirty/old/unserviced injectors. That just sounds like a personalized invitation to board the failboat.

Here is the info to correctly pin a TPS:
The resistance between the VREF and ground pins will remain constant.
The resistance between the ground and signal pins will be low with the throttle closed and high with the throttle wide open.
The resistance between the VREF and signal pins will be high with the throttle closed and low with the throttle wide open.

I will have a go at getting the tps correct. The injectors where straight out of a working RX7 and so should be fine but I just wanted to get them serviced as good practise but the cost wasnt worth it.

My closed reading was 77 but the car stinks of fuel. That may be because i did try and start the car a few times before I had the MS set up and I tried it without the TPS connected.

Ok so I took out my spark plugs and they did smell alittle of fuel and had a small amount of soot which was probably there from before the conversion. Then I changed over 2 npins on the TPS and now at closed my reading is 242 and when full throttle about 760. So thats working the right way round now.

Turned the car over and it didnt sound like it was trying to fire again.

The car again smells as if it is flooded.

I dont have my Wideband lambda in the exhaust yet its just hanging down as I was doing my calibration but that wouldnt stop it from firing would it?

Any settings that might be wrong in the MS?

Not sure if its relivent but my spark plugs have done very little mileage and where replaced a year ago. They are NGK R (BKR 7B 11)

Do all your sensor readings look good on the laptop?

I didn't have a chance last night to review the map you should have loaded. It sounds like you aren't sparking, or if you are you have too much fuel (ms not setup properly).

One thing you can do it under the diagnostics tab is run a composite log while cranking for 5-10 seconds (hold the throttle down so you DONT spark). you should see two traces a blue and green and a solid red line. If not, let me know.
