reloading base maps
It should be fine without doing anything. I've disconnected my wastegate plenty of times to keep out of boost and have had no problems. You do have a laptop, yes? And you've hooked it up?
My thought is to start from a NA base map instead of rescaling all of the tables.

True, by cutting out the pressureized part of the fuel and spark tables, you can essentially up your resolution. But it will run, and either way, a turbo MS and NA MS are no different. You can reload any map on to it.
Ah, that's a TS thing, it's still the same project. If you have two cars, say a Turbo 1.6 and a NA '99, you'd want one project for each, and various .msq's within, each with slightly different settings as you tweak your tune, or change components. At least that's what I remember, it's been a while
