Default Ms3pro locked up. No start, no tuner studio.

2000 Miata, 163k, ms3 installed for about seven months, boosted for years. FM no electronics kit. Ff640 injectors. DW200 fuel pump.

I was doing some clbc tuning runs yesterday. On my way home, stopped for gas. Car would not start back up after the fill-up. All accessories have power, car cranks, but led indicator on case does not flash during cranking. CEL not flashing. Will not connect to tuner studio. I don't think the fuel pump is running the two second pressurization cycle. Even after the car had completely cooled, the cooling fan is still running. Checked the fuses, all ok.

I had a couple of logs where the gear was incorrect. I had shrugged it off. I had a spare cam angle sensor so tried that, but that made no difference.

I'm thinking there must be an issue with the MS3 unit, since the fan is hung on even with the engine cold, and tuner studio won't connect. Of course, I'll contact DIY tomorrow, but was wondering if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions for debugging the issue. Thanks.

Check the main relay (green one in the engine bay) i chased a similar problem on my car and it was the relay connectors that were not tight enough to have a good connection

Yes, I checked that too. Even opened it up. Seems to be good from the best I can tell without throwing a meter on it. Thanks for the info. It seemed very snug in the mount. I'll check it with a tester.

To isolate between the car or the ECU being the problem, run some wires from your battery onto the Megasquirt itself, see if that powers it up.

Thank you for the suggestion.

The LED on the bottom of the case that shows 12v power to the unit was lit, but the 5v accessory LED was not. When cranking, the number three LED that should flash when receiving an RPM signal was off as well.
TS did not show a controller available. DIY had me check the two fuses inside the case. They appeared to still be good.

The unit is at DIY being evaluated now. I bought it December of last year, and installed it at the end of January. They have a one year warranty, so right now I'm just waiting to get the
determination from DIY as to the issue and what it will take to correct.

I'll update the thread as more info is available. I had not seen any instances of the PNP Pro having reliability issues, but right now I'm a little worried. The weekend before I'd driven 115 miles one-way to an autox. If I'd had the issue then, I'd have really been up the creek! I don't own a trailer.

I had a similar problem. Turns out my firmware got scrambled some how, I still haven't figured out what caused it. You have to use the console firmware flashing tool to get it to come back to life. Look for the instructions on how to manually update the firmware outside of TS. That should tell you what you need to do. Oh, related, unplug your coil pack when you update the firmware in this fashion, for some reason the update can burn them up.

EErockMiata, the ecu was already on the way to DIY when I saw your post. I should have mentioned, that I am running 1.5.1 beta 3, This version had the logging for PID values my tuner needed to lock in the CLBC settings. I ended up needing to replace my actuator, so was having to do a little work to the tune for clbc.

The good folks at DIY put my unit on the test stand and cannot find anything wrong with it. I'm figuring they are using a JimStim. I am pretty amazed, as some of the symptoms seemed like they could only be caused by problems with the ecu. These include cooling fan hung on (comes on via ground to relay), unable to connect to TS via either of my two laptops (no controller found), all accessories not driven by ecu working fine. The 12v power LED comes on, but the number three LED that is supposed to flash on seeing rpm does not. Replaced Cam Angle Sensor with known good unit.

Matt has been on vacation, so we are going to have him go over it, and work with me on possible debugging strategies before they ship it back.

I plugged in the OEM ecu and the cooling fan does not come on. So far I have confirmed fuses all intact, main relay functioning, fuel pump relay functioning. Going to pull the tray and check the power to the fuel pump as I can't try to start unless I reinstall the factory injectors, I'm trying to do as much as I can before trying that. Hopefully Matt will come up with something that makes sense, as I can't reconcile the symptoms I am experiencing with a good ecu.
