Default Tach shows up in megatune, not on gauge cluster

As always, my car is a 97. This is the last problem with my install, I swear. everything else works great

I'm not sure if this could be a software/firmware issue, or a wiring issue.

As stated, my tachometer functions normally on megatune, but it just doesn't show up on my gauge cluster. all the other gauges work correctly. Tach has never worked since I started this install.

i had the same problem but mine turned out to be a lose connection behind the gauge cluster. Have you tried disconnecting the tach signal to megatune to see if the cluster gauge works? Mine wouldn't let me share the tach signal.

No thats not your problem. On the 96/97 cars you have to build the tach driver circuit for MS and wire it to your tach pin.

Have you built that tach driver circuit he is talking about?

ok regarding this tach driver circuit I found this by searching the forums:
http://www.msextra.com/manuals/MS_Ex...l.htm#tachoout
according to joe perez in another thread, the top diagram should work. My question though, is does anyone know what value that 1k-10k resistor needs to be? and for the transistor, 2N2222A, is that something I'm gonna have to order or can I find one at radioshack or something?

Justin at DIY: "We used a 1k resistor for everything and it works pretty well."

bringing this thread from the dead, this car has been an ongoing project, I have it mostly tuned at this point, it runs fine and I've been using the tach when I need it through a laptop. Today I got out my tools and decided that I would build that circuit and get it working. I've got the circuit built, I just don't know exactly what wire I need to hook it to! I thought the shielded grey wire was the output signal, but after I looked at the megamanual, it looks like the CAS has two inputs from the shielded grey wire and also the blue wire. So where does the tach signal output from the MS?

Also, I followed that diagram linked a couple threads up, and the topmost wire is labeled '+12v ignition' what does that mean? I interpreted it to mean 12v when the ignition is on.
