So all I have is a desktop computer, but my fiance has a laptop. So I convinced her that Megatune doesn't take up any space and I won't screw around with her files, so she said I could use it. Her laptop is like a year old, and all it has are USB ports. So I guess need a USB to Serial adapter? That should be it, right?

 

assuming you have your megasquirt already burned and everything, just follow the download and installation instructions. you can follow the instructions for the addapter and setting up communication in brain's main megasquirt thread.

Edit: to answer your main question, yes you just need the adapter that can be purchased from diy autotune
