Default Tuning Questions and Feedback

Stock 1.6 with stock injectors.

So everything is in, car is idling great now that I have a mica insulator on my TIP120 It is idling in Warmup Only because i'm just not able to figure out how to get closed loop idling to work properly. Should I keep playing with it and use it or lose it?

The car cranked up at 40 degrees today just fine, played with the warmup wizard and it seems to warm up from cold just about like stock. Amazing. I need to play with my ASE settings a little bit to get it to crank a little more smoothly when cold.

My first question is to do with tuning. I've run many many (12 so far) logs through MLV and the VE analyzer and the car is running great but seems to be running very lean mostly at cruise and also under acceleration in a lot of areas. Do I need to do some live tuning to get this sorted out or am I actually fine with my AFRs? Log is attached.

When running things through the VE Analyzer, how does it make judgements to adjust the table? Is it using the AFR Target table? If so, perhaps that is someplace I need to focus my attention. Or perhaps is it that my VE table is not scaled properly?

I'm getting some resets but they dont affect driving at all and I dont get them every time. I need to take apart my DB37 and add another ground.

Lastly, should I install my RX7 550s before my turbo and get the car idling and running them properly or do that at the same time as the turbo install? I'm still shy on a few smaller parts to get the turbo in, all the big stuff has been acquired.

Thats about it, everything is working properly so far: Fans, Idle, etc etc. Any input would be great, thanks

I just looked through the log. Looks like it runs like ****. You have noise like crazy. And a reset. Did you build the MS yourself? What code are you running? How did you ground everything? Did you calibrate the TPS sensor? You have some problems for sure. Get them figured out. Tune a bit on the stock injectors, then swap injectors and retune. THEN turbo.

And yeah, MS looks at your AFR table to tune the VE table when you analyze it.

Interesting, it doesn't run like **** at all. Running HR code. Yes Built the MS myself, everything is running through 2 ground wires that are each connected to 2 pins on the DB37. Those 2 grounds run directly to the head through the firewall. The LC1 is grounded through one of the existing ECU grounds. I dont have a variable TPS yet installed, thought I could still run without one.

Is it the unsteady (spikey?) graph that indicates noise?

Read up on how to ground everything and make sure you ground everything EXACTLY as outlined. Something is amiss. Do you have both grounds from the LC-1 going to the ecu? That's not right you know. Read up on grounding anyway, that's probably all your problems. And yes, unsteady graph = noise.

Ok, i'll read up again on grounding. I'm pretty certain I need one more for the MS and i'll check again into the LC1 grounds also.

you're loosing tach completely...did you install a .1uF cap on js8 to GND?

I did, yes. Might you be noting the resets? There were 2 on that log.

Although, I didn't use the shielded tach wire on my DB37, I think someone told me I didn't need to. Could that be an issue?

So i'm reading over the LC-1 manual again and it indicates that you DO want to ground the LC1, Heater and gauge all to the same place as the ECU. This is how I have it, basically, 2 new dedicated grounds run straight from the MS to the IM grounding point, A separate wire for the LC1 stuff going to the same place.

I'm guesing I just need more.

not even, just all the places where all the signals drop out. It could easily be a grounding issue.

shielded wire not needed.

You have wheel decoder base teeth set to 12, that might be an issue. Should be 2.

I troublshot this potential grounding issue this evening and discovered that the ground on the left side of the head to the shelf was not connected to the head. Not sure if this was a bonehead move on my part when I put the engine in or if the bolt fell out, could be either.

I re-connected it and left the MS grounding alone. I have 2 thick wires (not sure of gauge) soldered to 3 pins each on the DB37, each wire running directly through the firewall to the intake manifold grounding point. The LC-1 is grounded through a stock ECU ground wire, which seem to lead to the same point.

Here is my newest log and msq after the change, still looks like crap and in some places even worse. My DB9 connector sucks and I cant actually screw my serial adapter into it so it is quite loose, could this cause the shitty logs? The car runs wonderfully, i assume if I had major noise/grounding issues it'd run like **** like pat said earlier.

Another note, I'm not getting a single reset now that I fixed that ground. I'll have to take a longer drive to be sure of this but it used to reset atleast once before I even moved the car.
