how hard is it to get one that size under the bumper cover? I'm not down with trimming the actual bumper.

The Intercooler has 2.5 inlet and outlets at the bottom of the end tanks. This is not a Miata specific IC. I got it to intercool my SC, but WI was better way for me to go. I would have had to cut into the wheel wells too run the pipes due to underbracing that I have, and refuse to give up. I could have gone that route or tilted the radiator back and run the pipes ala TRD. So, WI was my friend. I dont have a pic of the IC, but you can see the exact one I got by going here:
