Default Diff carrier w/RX7 clutch lsd and 3.63 gears

I have a diff carrier from my 01 that has a RX7 clutch lsd in it with a very high preload (135 or so originally) and cryo treated 3.63 gears purchased from Corksport. It's a nice setup and served me well, definitely not the quietest thing in the world at low speeds, but has been very nice to have in the car with the big turbo setup. I would like to trade this straight across to someone for a 4.3 torsen setup that's in excellent condition and not abused. I'm' not interested in shipping this thing yet, so for now let's see if there's any local interest.

damn... If you were local, I would take your offer up in a heart beat. Does it whine pretty loud at low speeds due to the preload?

No whine at all that I can hear, just pops when turning at low speeds quite a bit. My car is louder than most and that could just be covering it up. I will be including some spare pieces for when the time comes for a rebuild.

I'm not interested in trading from anyone not local, but I would be willing to sell it outright. If you're interested, shoot me an offer. I can't imagine this would be cheap to ship though.

It is not as bad to ship as you would think. I bought a full diff assembly from Skip Cannon and I think it was $40 to ship from Colorado to Tennessee.

I have a 4.3 torsen from a '99-00 sitting in my garage that I was going to put in my track car that I would consider trading if you decide to go that route.

How about a 4.10 out of a MSM? And I'm local.

I'd really have to think about it and we'd also need to swap axles. How many miles on it? Mine also has poly diff mounts, forgot to put that in the original post.

It's got about 55k on it. The mounts are stock.

Sounds good to me, I don't think I'm going to find anyone local that's willing to make the trade with 4:30 gears, so 4:10 gears will have to be close enough for now.

I sent you a text so you would have my number. Give me a call sometime this week and we can work out the logistics.

JayL,

Might be interested. Let me know if Mr. Mighty Mouser doesn't work out. I've been planning a 3.63 swap for my car, have an old set of gears, just haven't tackled it. What's the clutch diff like on a road course?

I believe the rear end in my 94 C package car is a 4.1 though.

I actually am only interested in the MSM 4.1 diff w/axles, any of the others and I would hold out for a 4.3 diff. I like the idea of a relatively low mileage, never been opened oem diff as well.

As for what it's like, the clutch diff is different than what I had expected. I lack the ability to drive my car to the fullest, but here's what I noticed: As we all know, straight line performance is great and I've put this thing through hell. The diff mounts themselves contribute to this as well. Under trail braking it had great feel and really seemed to help the car transition good and stay planted and controllable. If at anytime going into a corner or during a corner I would lift, it would cause the car to push. This really caught me off guard the first few times, but with proper maintenance throttle it was a non-issue. Coming out of the corner it didn't have any negative characteristics that I could tell, but I was more limited by the tires lack of grip and the amount of power that I'm running. Those two items made it really difficult to be aggressive on corner exit, but I'm sure a more skilled driver would be able to work around it better than I could.

The big reason that I'm getting rid of it is because I would prefer to have the 4.30+ gears and I really don't want to mess with getting this thing setup again. I have another diff that I would get setup if that was the case. It also sucks when turning at low speeds when it pops. If I did decide to sell the car it would be hard to explain this to the next owner and would limit my resale options when I part with this low mileage well taken care of beauty. Who knows, after a few track days with the torsen I might decide that I like the clutch lsd better. Live an learn.

and hubs. I somehow ended up with 1 MSM axle and it did not fit in the hub.

Id love to purchase this setup if you were willing to ship, but Seattle to NC would butthurt me bad. Let me know if you decide to change your mind, I need a good drag setup.

JayL, I have a 94 4.10 rear end with a Cusco 1.5 way LSD that I would be willing to trade possibly if you are willing to ship. I need something that will hold 600 whp or so.

EDIT: Is this the FC RX7 carrier/pumpkin or your stock one with a RX7 LSD?

I've seen this swap done by a few people and none of them needed to swap hubs, this is the first I have ever heard of this. The splines in the hub should be identical, it's the diff side that's different.

If things fall through, I might just be interested in this, but for now it's so much easier to deal locally with a setup that I am familiar with.

This is my stock Miata pumking with a RX7 lsd. It's got cryo treated r&P as well as a few beer cans in it. No idea how much power it will hold, but it definitely wasn't the weak link in my 400+ setup. For 600+ you'd probably want to even start looking into billet caps and stuff or just a cts or ford setup.

This is once again available. His axles have the abs things on them and mine didn't so we didn't end up doing the swap today because he would like to keep the abs functional. I can't blame him because I would have felt the same way. Anyways, the diff is no longer in my car and is ready for a new home. This time around I will settle for no less than a diff with a set of 4.30 gears.

Hey JayL,

I may be willing to take a drive up there if the weather isn't so bad. PM me your number and address and let's see if we can work something out.

I have a completely stock and unmolested 4.3 diff with a torsen on my 99 with no abs.
