I may also be interested in the short block. Is this just the standard one from an MSM? Any chance you can give me a quick rundown on differences between this and my 94' short block? I'm in Chicago btw.

Just from what I "know".... the turbo oil feed is on the driver side rear of the block.

Yeah, the only thing I know is that the oil feed is on the drivers side. I believe there may be a coolant feed as well?

The oil pan has a pre-existing oil drain, and the oil baffle appears to be different as well. Honestly while I might prefer the mazdaspeed block due to the coolant feed it's not THAT much different and certainly not better enought to significantly overpay.

If I had a 94' short block ready to build I wouldn't spend the extra money to buy another short block, but I am happy to sell if you are interested.

Both OBD1 94-95.5 and the MSM blocks have the oil/coolant port on the exhaust side.

Only difference is the MSM blocks use the 01+ thrust bearings compared to the normal 94-00 ones.
Also the rods are shot peened(minor) and the oil pump will be the slightly higher pressure VVT pump but those can be changed on any engine. Water pump outlet water pipe are MSM specific and go together. The main bearing support plate shown has to be mated with a pan that also used one; the earlier ones didn't. Pan is MSM specific but that isn't shown here either.

If this was much closer to me I would have already grabbed it because turbo

Sorry for not getting back to you, I got sidetracked.
If you still have it by the end of the week, I will take it.
I have to spend my disposable cash on some other things today.

How many miles on the MSM block and internals? Was it running fine when disassembled?

I can't recall the milage. Whatever the original owner told me didn't seem out of line and since I was rebuilding it from the ground up I didn't really care.

ACL bearings are going to be used in my engine build. The King Race bearings (STD) that were in the block that I bought already built are available. They were installed in the block but the engine was never run on them. I decided to use the ACL bearings instead just because that was my original plan. I realize not everyone might want them but if you are price conscious I would be willing to sell them for $45 shipped anywhere in the U.S.A..

Hey buddy, sorry for not getting back to you.
Messed up week. I've been spacier than usual.
It looks like my current block is going to be good to go after all, so I'll have to pass on this for now.

Ok, thank's for the heads up. Glad you could re-use it. Now to find another buyer!

Bump?
For locals I may go lower. I would keep it but I don't want it to turn into a lump of rust if I keep it five or ten years...

Anyone?

yes, but I would prefer to sell the motor with it. It makes it harder to sell the block missing parts.

i totally understand. Rod 4 on my block took a **** and came of the oil pan. I'm pulling the motor this week to see if I need a whole block or just the pan. If part the pan I'll buy asap if not, I can maybe buy the whole thing once motor is out.

I've never shipped a motor before. I'd have to look into how to do it economically.

Look, I am totally ok with exploiting your tragedy to my gain. However, I would think that in Texas there would be some Miata clubs. I know that if I posted in the facebook group of my local Miata club looking for the parts you mentioned I would have two or three offers in a day or two.

If you are looking for a pan from a 1994-97 isellmiataparts.com has one in stock for $65. Keep an eye out on these two sites:
