Yeah like Curley said, he just didn't have money. Shops didn't want to touch it because of the turbo kit. If they did the job and he drove down the road and it blows up, he would have a case against the shop cause they did the swap. He really needed someone to do this as a personal favor I guess..

Yeah I have NO 1.8 experience, let alone any NB experience... so a lot of this car is new to me. Learning as I go and I'm glad to gain some know-how though!


Pshhhhh don't even want to talk about it... At the time I posted that they were 3-1 and I felt like there was still a spec of hope to get on the right track. With every single new loss it starts looking more and more like a train-wreck of a season. I actually had high hopes for this year too :vash:

Accomplished some more today... Just finished pulling the motor, and stripped all of the wiring harness off of the new motor. Just need to swap the 5spd over to the new motor, and swap the iac valve form the old motor onto the new motor (New motor came with a broken one). Hoping to have the motor back in by next Saturday morning! Can't wait to have it out of my hair lol

Well I'm not certain it's the Iac now that I think about it... Its a little valve that is mounted to the lower portion of the intake manifold is does something with the butterfly valves in the intake mani..

On another note...

Should I A.) keep the 6spd and use it or...

B.) sell the 6spd so I can buy the final couple parts for my turbo setup (ID Injectors, and a boost gauge)

Also... Is there any real benefit of the 6spd over my ~70k miles 91' 5spd? Is it stronger? I remember reading that the 6th gear really dosent drop rpm's all that much vs the 5spds 5th gear?!?! Did I hear wrong?

6spd shifts worse and smashes the gears closer together, but otherwise 6th=5th gear of the 5spd box. Only really useful when you have the final drive to utilize the 6spd, and the power to blow up the 5spd.

Yes it's stronger, but if you're not racing or making enough power to blow up the 5spd, I'd sell it.

I love my 6 speed. No issues with shifting vs my old 5 speed. Definitely nicer in the cold since the gears are closer together.

I'm torn.... I guess I'm not in a rush for my final parts cause I probably won't put the car together until spring... I'll probably just hang onto it over the winter and make up my mind. I also have to see how much $$ I make between scrapping the blown block and selling all of the accessories

I'd keep the 6er, then again I'm building a bottom end for more powahh.

I should sell the 6spd and buy a 1.8 lol

Is there any chance that the cylinder head would have any damage from the bottom end blowing up? I'll probably keep that to sell separately instead of scrapping it... Providing there is nothing wrong with it

There may be some gouging in the combustion area, or bent valves, but most likely that will be a worse case scenario.

Ok so I need to tap the oil pan for the return... Haven't done this before. My drill is wayy too small to accept this huge 37/64 drill bit. I took the bit to home depot with the intent to pick out a drill that would work, and return it after I used it (Dick move, but I dont want to buy a $200 drill just to get this job done) ... Anyway I couldn't even find a drill that was large enough to accept this ginormous bit. Is there an adapter or something I can use to accept this bit into an ordinary drill?

If it were me I would just grind the end that drill bit down until it fit into that drill.

Thought about that but I dont want the bit to wobble

Drill a hole in the pan with the largest bit your drill will fit first. Even if it wobbles at that point it will be guided in if you drill slow. you will be through the oil pan in about 10 seconds anyway. This is thin soft aluminum we are talking about. If you are uneasy about it, practice on the old pan.

Yeah I have a small pilot hole drilled already. Great tip with the old pan though, I'm definitely going to do that. Time to grind down the bit, thanks for the tip!
