LS D585 Ignition Coil Bracket Kit

8 Attachment(s)
I've been asked at length to come up with bracketry for the LS D585 coils. After a few prototypes and much consideration, I've come up with a good solution that should work for all 1.8L Miatas.

This kit will be comprised of:
  • (1) Driver Side Bracket
  • (1) Passenger Side Bracket
  • (4) BHCS w/ Nuts and Spacers
Note: Factory valve cover screws are used to fasten the brackets to the valve cover

Special Pre-Order Pricing is set to $65 including shipping until June 5th. Special pricing will only be available if we can gather a minimum of 5 kits on pre-order. The kits will be available for shipment in 2-3 weeks time.

If you would like to bundle in a set of tested D585 coils with your order, I'm happy to do so. Please note I only have a limited quantity of coils available at this time, so it will be a first come first serve situation. :)

Please comment with your interest, and I will get an invoice sent to you.

Someone needs to make a plug and play loom and post the Magnecor boot part #'s and wire lengths for the highly unmotivated crowd like me.

I'm in for a set + coils/factory wiring. Put my name on the list please.

I haven't gotten that far yet, but if someone has the info I'm good with it being posted in here.

Just to confirm, were you in for the bracket only or did you also want a set of coils?

julio 05-25-2016 07:55 AM

Yes, brackets only for Julio please!!! Got a couple sets of the coils a while back that are lounging in the basement with the rest of my build parts.....

Downmented 05-25-2016 08:00 AM

In for a bracket set, already have the coils from you.

Will they come black, if so how are they "blacked" ?

In Soviet's build thread he has the info on what boots and everything you need to make your own lines.

Excellent, I'll add you to the list.

The prototype was painted black, as I made it from scraps of mild steel. The production units will come bare stainless, which gives you the ability to run it as-is or coat it to your liking. :)

m2cupcar 05-25-2016 08:20 AM

Does the bracket/coil rest on the cam cover? or is it just cantilevered off the cam cover bolts?

The bracket is cantilevered from the valve cover bolts. It does not rest of the top the surface of the cover. :)

Thanks! I'll add you to the list. Did you want to add the coils in as well, or just the bracket kit?

The brackets don't interfere with the cam sensor, but I don't have a picture showing their relationship at the moment. I'll try to upload it later tonight. :)

StealthNB 05-25-2016 05:11 PM

just the bracket kit Sir. I can pay for it now too. Please let me know and thank you for developing such a cool part.

TheBandit 05-25-2016 11:21 PM

Thanks everyone for making this happen.

Any concern for the load on the cam cover bolts? I'm not an engineer, so I tend over-compensate when it comes to building parts like this, knowing the tendencies for vibration failures. My inclination would be to connect the two brackets - probably with a separate piece/bar that spans the cam cover as below. Thoughts?

Was thinking the same thing. That brace should do the trick.

On another note...DAMMIT!!! I just ordered a set of D510C coils, and will be fabbing a mount for them. If I hadn't done that, I would be ordering your setup, for sure.

M2,

Thanks for the input. I'm not at all opposed to offering a brace to connect the two brackets. At the same time, I'm not particularly worried about it,as the coils are only about 1-1/4 lb per pair. As an aside, I'm a design engineer by day, but that doesn't mean that I'm never going to miss something. :)

If there is enough interest, I'll have one quoted and add it as optional piece. The one caveat is that it will increase the price of the kit by $10-15 if I had to guess. As someone who has spent the better part of their earnings buying car parts, as such I'm always trying to do what I can to keep pricing reasonable.

Again, thanks for the feedback and interest in our products! :bigtu:

m2cupcar 05-27-2016 06:16 PM

Excellent response. Prop cat awarded. It might be a preferred option for those who track their cars and experience sustained/repeated high rpm.

Stealth,

Thanks for the message.

I'm going to create the brace this weekend, and I'll post up some pictures including it. I won't have a price on it til mid next week, but once I do we can do a separate transaction for the brace, no worries. :)

VanMSM 05-28-2016 02:08 PM

Just ordered! I also want to order the cross brace when it's available.

All who have ordered the LS Coil Brackets: If you get an email from us that may imply that these have shipped it is incorrect. Due to the way our payments process, we have to accept the funds in a short time or we are required to refund, which unfortunately doesn't make itself all that helpful for pre-orders.

If you receive this email, it is just us confirming we received your payment. I will be posting here as progress is made on the brackets as well as the braces. Feel free to post questions here or via PM. :)

Stealth,

Thanks for your support in the business. The brackets are 2-2.5 weeks out at this point and I'm hoping if I get the brace over to the vendor tomorrow they can keep the same schedule on those as well. I should have pricing on the brace this week, and I will make that announcement as soon possible along with a convenient way for payment. :)

julio 05-31-2016 02:03 PM

In for the brace too and more than willing to wait.

Downmented 06-01-2016 06:42 AM

Payment sent for bracket. Thank you

TheBandit 06-01-2016 01:26 PM

Thanks for the orders everyone!

I'm hoping to hear pricing back by tomorrow, and I can start getting those processed. :)

TheBandit 06-03-2016 11:31 AM

Good News!

Pricing for the brace came in and we can add it to any existing order for $12.

I'll get this option added to the site this weekend, and I'll make sure to have a way for those who have already ordered the kit to buy the piece separately.

Chiburbian 06-03-2016 11:39 AM

Can you notify people who ordered the brackets that they are available and allow them to add the part before the rest of it ships? I would like to order the part but I'd rather not pay extra shipping. I'd rather have it all ship out at once.

TheBandit 06-03-2016 11:56 AM

That is my plan to use for everyone unless otherwise requested. No sense in wasting money on extra shipping if it can be avoided. :)

I will either contact via PM on here or the email address you used on the site to verify that the customer wants to hold shipping until the brace is available.

StealthNB 06-03-2016 02:16 PM

Yeah count me in too. I am ready to pay for the brace now. Any pics of the final design???

Works fine. You need to select "no coils" "no extra parts" if you only want the brace.

I just did it using the same link.

StealthNB 06-04-2016 10:05 AM

not really, I tried numerous times and re-direct me to this page.

Remove everything from the cart, go back to the link, select "no coils included" + "none for me today" + "coil bracket brace" + "add to basket" and complete the order.

Apparently you still have the original items in the basket.

I just went through each step and completed the order for 1 brace @ $12 (I did need to remove the original $129 items from the basket).

TheBandit 06-04-2016 10:30 AM

I believe the site is working as intended. I'll see if I can default the other items to not be selected, as I can see that might make things easier.

Let me know if you have any further hang ups. :)

StealthNB 06-04-2016 11:00 AM

Perhaps some of the contents of the shopping cart in the website are blocked from my PCU at work. I will try to order the brace from my PCU at home. The Bandit, you can also pm me a Paypal invoice and I will gladly pay for the brace inmediately.

Thank you

Thank you

We've updated the Extra Items so that they default to nothing selected, and it seems to be working ok. I'm trying to limit the PayPal invoices if possible,as it's much easier to miss and harder to keep track of. Just give it another shot when you get a chance. We're still targeting to start shipping kits on Wednesday June 15th so we've got some time. :)

D585 coils only - see https://www.miataturbo.net/diy-turbo...-thread-82744/
See pictures, mount tabs are located in different spots for different coils.

Stealth,

Thanks for the bracket order!

Regarding the LS3 fitment, we've discussed this, and I told you the same the Lokiel did. The LS3 coils mount differently, and are not intended to be used with these brackets. I understand your worry about the D585 coils compatibility with the Hydra ECU, but if you are worried about the differences in settings differences you should give FM a call and have that discussion with them. :)

TheBandit 06-06-2016 10:23 PM

Looks like most have made the brace purchase that were interested. I'll leave it up in case anyone missed it.

Things are still going smoothly. I'm confident we will be able to ship out the first kits mid next week.
