When installing the front bar, did you guys keep the hood latch? Is the lower support needed if you do?
|
It is not needed. I ran without it for quite some time before i went to hood pins.
|
|
Will cutting out that center support cause rigidity issues on the track or if you have to use the front tow hook?
|
My car adds an extra variable of being seam welded, but I've run without it for a long time and never noticed it. There's a bit of discussion either in the diy aero thread or weight loss thread (I don't remember which) and the conclusion was that it was pretty much negligible. I've also used my tow hook in a couple of occasions and never had a problem.

Finally got around to installing mine last weekend
Sorry for the glare, it was obviously really sunny and hot. To coincide with the new front bar I also installed a set of push button Quik-Latches in the bumper to secure near the fender as the old plastic tabs have since snapped off. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...7b67c6d787.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...ded33c8d07.jpg |
Here's mine with radiator ducting in place.

More material should be in tomorrow so if you want to get a bar now is the time!
|
The front bars had a slight revision this round to drop a little more weight and gain some extra clearance around the blinker. So all front bars form here on out will have the updated plate design.
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...b06fc10c24.jpg |
weight reduction - 1/2 lbs? i have not yet installed the original. I guess the end plates could be trimmed.
|
That looks great!
|
Interested in ordering a front and possibly rear bar for NA, how do I go about it?
Thanks! |
If anyone wants front or rear bars I can have some made and bring them to WRLS in a couple weeks.
|
I'm interested in a front bar as well - love to go ahead and pick one up
|
Quick question about the front bar plates. Why are they slotted ?

Found some of the older blem plates from the first batch of front bars. They will need a hole drilled 1" off of where the slot is but are 100% functional. Have 3 available for $150, Also have 9 of the updated front bars for $175.
Have a bunch of stuff for NA rear bars so if you want one of those just message me and ill make you a good deal. |
Are these now being sold through Left Lane Designs?
I need/want an NB front. |

Looking to get one of these for an NA as well.
|
Just checking, do you have to cut out the front metal structure for this to work? On a NB
|
You don't "have to"
You could simply unbolt factory parts and bolt this in for a weight reduction. Part of the beauty of this though is it allows better ability to duct to your radiator IF you cut out the front metal structure. Scroll through the thread and you can see various installs. |
Just got a new batch of plates so have a bunch of bars available!
NA/NB Front bar $175 Shipped CONUS NA Rear Bar $160 Shipped CONUS |
I'm interested in a front bar! I'll take a blem one if you still have any, otherwise the updated version is fine!
|
Still making these through the Corona virus. Get your orders in!
|
I'll take one. PM sent
|
Don't suppose you'd want to mock one up for the NC crowd? The face of mine has been off for a year now, I've got plenty of time to send you pics, measurements, whatever. :) I'd be really interested in opening up my intercooler and my future oil cooler location too...

Did you box section the bar to the frame rail?
|
Are you putting a little foam along the front edge of the bar to get an airtight seal to the bumper skin?
|
Bar arrived quickly and in great shape. Thanks!

probably not, the bar gets really close to the bumper. I also have an opening cut in the top of the bumper, which supplies fresh air to the top half of the radiator.

Maybe this will help clarify.
I don't really want to jack this thread anymore, just wanted to provide another example of how this part can be used. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...79dda69a7d.png |
Edit: Pictured clarified old response

Bumpidy bump bump
|
I have 2 bars boxed and ready for quick ship.
|
I received my bar today. It was a beauty!

Installed mine recently on my Aussie MSM with alternate ducting solution: Alternate Ducting Solution
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...1b970e5c45.jpg |
For those looking for a centre number-plate mounting solution with this bar:
I didn't want to drill holes through the OEM bumper and noted that the rear of the new bar cleared the mounted OEM MSM bumper so I could mount my existing aftermarket MX5-Plus number plate mount there somehow. https://i.postimg.cc/Qx5kBMLt/01-Rea...Of-Bracket.jpg The green tape on the number plate was used as a reference point, the right edge being the centre of the plate. I made a couple of 40mm x 3mm aluminium L-brackets to mount to the existing number plate bracket and a couple of double-width galvanised brakets to wrap around the bar and mount the L-brackets to: https://i.postimg.cc/6pfr01px/02-Rear-Brackets.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/pLHQKtxB/02-5-Clamped-Up.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/YSX1cGFX/03-Bar...ts-Mounted.jpg I wrapped the bar with a couple of layers of black tape where the galvanised brackets attach to to give them some grip on the bar. With the aluminium rear brackets pop-riveted to them, they don't move/slide at all. I spent a LOT of time measuring everything up, installing/removing the front bumper multiple times, only to find that it's slightly crooked. Luckily it's only by a few mm so can be easily fixed (hopefully just by bending the original bracket a bit): https://i.postimg.cc/hG493bXz/04-Mou...-Down-View.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/B6X2JScJ/05-Mounted-Front-View.jpg For the number plate to comfortably clear the front of mounted bumper bar, the distance between the rear of the bar and the number plate must be at least 65mm. I'm currently giving the bar a couple of resprays (painting the front of the galvanised brackets in the process) and will trim off the un-needed end sections of the original bracket. |
Bump. Have a good amount of material ready to make some bars.

Currently have one bar ready for quick ship. Typically there is a 4-5 day lead time so get this one while you can!
|
One of our original bars being put to use by another forum member. If anyone ever wondered about the strength this should reassure you.
