BUMP

b3d3g1 09-04-2020 01:40 PM

Installed mine along with Kaze Spec splitter mounts. I'll be adding a piece of metal the same thickness as the plate of the support bar so the splitter mount rests against more surface area but they look like they will work great together.

Would there be any interest in a ducting kit that would work with the front bar and an airdam?

Definitely. Would it be possible to have a version that can accommodate FMIC?

matrussell122 09-13-2020 02:29 PM

Due to nearly infinite possibilities for intercooler mounting that trimming would be left to the end user.

Ill be making a new thread for the ducting stuff in the near future. As for now I have a strut bar that I cant use on my K swap so one of the next 10 bars sold will get a FREE STRUT BAR tossed into with the order.

Got mine as well a couple weeks ago, helped me tighten up my front end after cutting out a bent center support. Thanks!

viperormiata 10-27-2020 05:19 PM

Is there any reason to be concerned about the front bumper "caving in" from lack of support behind it? It's a streetcar, so the looks are important to me.

I'm adding an oil cooler to my ls1 nb and the front end real estate is already tight. I need one of these.

matrussell122 10-27-2020 05:35 PM

Zero concern with bumper caving in. That is unless car meets wall at speed or something that would typically cave in the front of the car anyways.

Good to hear. I only bring that up because you see NA's with the bumper caving in with no support behind it. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't a concern with this product. Count me in.

What's the general practice - cut off the air conditioning brackets in front of radiator and extend the duct sides into or past the radiator hangers or build the sides from the AC condenser mounting points ? What's the best place to attach the sides of the box or how far are the sides - up to the radiator or slightly past the rad tank sides ?

The cut off front section which incorporates the tow hook attachments are in the way and makes the duct box construction more difficult, requiring a flared shape toward the radiator.

Is it possible to order one without any mounting holes drilled? My car has been in a little wreck and I'm sure none of the holes will perfectly line up. So I rather drill the holes myself. If so, I'm interested!

The holes are slightly slotted already. If it still won’t line up, you should get your car on a frame rack so other things fit correctly.

My car was in a fender bender so I had some alignment issues, but all it took was a few whacks with a hammer and it was perfect.

Once you start bolting it in place it helps, too.

I have enough materials to get a couple more bars out in short order before I need to make a waterjet order then it goes to a couple week leadtime.

stubbs 02-23-2021 04:36 AM

I read every post. But I still didn't see any info if this will clear a TDR intercooler setup?

I have a TDR IC in post #203, so, having some doubts, as the TDR logo is right there, lol. But, bottom line is you have to fabricate mounts and cannot use the plastic air guides, since these bars require cutting out the structure that the TDR IC is designed to mount to.

Thank you for explaining this. I saw you asking earlier in your 1st post about if it fit but missed that info if you put it up. So I really appreciate your time to post this up.

If both of you could toss me an email at leftlaneautodesigns@gmail.com with the title "Miata Ducting Kit", we could potentially get the ball rolling. I've been brainstorming with people on how to successfully pull this off, but would like some info on your specific setups (aka radiator brand, NA or NB, any additional heat exchangers used besides radiator, etc). Lots of variables at play to successfully pull this off, but now that my NB is running, its possible I could work with a local fab shop to get prototypes made on my car to pass on to you...

Being completely transparent, price point is likely going to be the main point of debate to successfully retail these. Material costs are high and the expectation to laser cut and form a ducting kit for a price people are willing to pay is going to be the challenge.

Lokiel 04-23-2021 05:05 AM

I don't know how you'd be able to provide a generic ducting kit given all the configurations out there.
Figuring out bespoke ducting is hard enough.
You'll probably need to provide a generic solution that requires users to cut it up according to their configuration, or cardboard templates that users can customise and provide to you for manufacture.

Padlock 04-23-2021 09:00 AM

Yup. Outside of the cost concerns I have already, finding a solution that meets needs of a vast variety of potential combinations is no small challenge. Regardless, I think its worth the point of discussion with a few that may be interested.

Really? I ordered a front/rear bar and had zero issues with receiving them or the quality of the part.

I have had an overwhelmingly good experience with the parts I purchased from @matrussell122 . I can vouch that he is good people.

matrussell122 07-27-2021 03:24 PM

Hey guys,

I have had one unhappy customer on here over the last 3 years of making these bars for you all. Unfortunately he has been email past employers and it is affecting me growing my own company. So I ask you all, if you have done business with me or my colleagues please share your experience here or on my profile.

We are also in full swing so if you want a bar be sure to send me a PM

Cheers

Mat Russell

thebeerbaron 07-27-2021 10:07 PM

Emailing past employers?! Are you f'ing kidding?

b3d3g1 07-28-2021 11:09 AM

Zero problems with my order a year ago. I do remember the return address being an unrelated company name, but it was a purchase through a forum private message so not a shocker.

Lokiel 07-29-2021 05:31 AM

I ordered 2x bars over a year ago to Australia, no problems at all with the order and no whining that it was "Too Hard" to send internationally.
Pretty good service IMO from a small manufacturer and I'd have no problem recommending anyone to purchase from Matt.

Midtenn 07-29-2021 09:44 AM
