Awesome!
Which one of you homos is running this?

slowcarfast 05-27-2016 06:12 PM

Oh sure, now you come out with this, two weeks after I spent an absurd amount of time hacking together an awful mount from a bunch of scrap pieces. I've been waiting for somebody to bring a mount just like this to market. A few weeks sooner and I definitely would have bought one... I still might. This looks great!

Wow. This is clean. I'll have to loose my stock strut bar but it doesn't do anything anyway. Sending a PM

Advantages of running this coil set up? Will this work on a 99 10th AE?

No advantages if on the stock ECU. Shouldn't be used with a stock ECU. This is for getting more powerful spark with an aftermarket ECU.

The only advantage is if you are running high boost or otherwise need an powerful spark, as the stock coils can blow out above 12psi.

No, you'll need to "lose" it completely.

Y'all never had to buy a '99 coil and cat. I'd suggest not turning away potential buyers cause they're not megasquirted or boosted

Running GM coils on a stock ECU will toast the coils because of dwell settings.

They are easy to find and good replacements for stock coils. Boosted or not. But a dwell reducer or an aftermarket ECU are required.

mx54life 05-28-2016 12:26 AM

Well my 99 10th AE is boosted with an FFS Coldside MP62 but I am just running with the recommended Pro-cards. Altho I am on a bigger 110 mm pulley right now, I will be going back to the 105 mm as living in Cali does not offer me a better octane street gas. So if this GM coils will work and make my set-up more efficient then I guess its worth upgrading.

deezums 05-28-2016 01:05 AM

It depends on what dwell the stock computer runs. I'm seeing numbers all over the place in searches. I run 4.1ms of dwell, and I've run up to 4.6ms. It's important you not run too much dwell with any GM coil. If you overcharge them they will discharge early...

You can google "Ls2 truck coil dwell" for this pic here for a stock GM dwell map. Here is some more info on dwell, though this page doesn't stress the importance of not running too much dwell.

Chances are it would be just fine. These aren't like the Toyota cops, they can handle more charge and might even need more than stock...

Project time is free, scraps are cheap. Nice parts are nice to look at every time you lift the hood.
I'm running one. Stainless, so it polishes nicely.

How do I get one of these brackets?

Lokiel 05-28-2016 06:22 PM

Consider packaging with ignition wires too (ie. add an option that includes them) since the wires are a custom length and buyers wont have to deal with the hassle of making them.

I have a custom LSx bracket that sits on top of the rocker cover and bought the FM Big Spark Kit Magnecore Ignition wires and plugs, then had to shorten the wires significantly.

Most customers would want to buy the ignition wires ready-made if they could since they have to buy them anyway and get them "custom lengthed".
