So, I'm curious, how deep did they go with the tuning? Did they cover all cells/temp correction tables/etc? Just wanted to make sure it was an "all inclusive" tune. My car is pretty drivable, but I want to make sure they look at all parameters, and make sure it's good to go.
Thanks,
Jason
Thanks,
Jason
Aaron was methodical on his tune and we had the car on the rollers for 5 hous, it ended up with 314hp at 21.4 psi, unfortunatley last night i did a post tune inspection and comp test and found some metal flakes on the plugs an have some oil on pistons 3 and 4, looking at the data log I think that I had some pre-ignition although the mixture was good and timing conservative so I think that the 7 heat range plugs were to hot for the boost level.
I will boroscope the piston tops and cylinders to see
If I can see where the oil is coming from but the engine got hurt and will need to be pulled.
I though that I did everithing right on this build but you just never know when making that much power something small can turn bad really quick and I'm sure that I am the 1000'th guy that made 300+ HP for 30 minutes and broke it 😫

Bummer, sorry to hear. I'm going to be using heat range 7 at .022 gap, per his instructions, but I'm only running 18psi max based on my turbo/redline/displacement (2560/8000/1.9L).
I plan on doing a full tune up before my appointment, and am going to test compression and use a borescope to be safe.
Best of luck with your teardown. Hope it is not too bad.

Told Aaron that I was interested in getting a good tune rather than a quick rush deal and was willing to pay for it but such is life.
Looking at the bores and pistons right now and it looks like the bores are ok.
Planing on selling my SC NA before tearing this engine apart.
Good luck on your tune

Well, it looks like I am cancelling my appointment for now. Drained the oil out, and it had a lot of metal in it. Though, ok, maybe it's acceptable, as this is the break in oil, and it had 500 miles on it. Then I cut open the filter and found copper flakes. That's bad. Time to pull apart the bottom end before it gets more expensive.
Not a happy guy right now.

Sorry to hear that, was it knocking? The only bronze I can think of would be from the conecting roods wrist pin bearrings...
I got another short block that I will build up and will order roods pistons etc. for it this weekend, but I need to work on my SC NA that needs to find a new home this sumer... Have to many toys right now.
Best of luck on your car.

It's actually copper, so main/rod bearings.
No noises at all, runs great. Oil pressure is 55-60 psi when cold. You would never know.
All that I can think of is that I had some really rich moments when starting to tune, and issues trying to get it to idle, so maybe that chugging with being really rich damaged the bearings. All I can think of for now. Either way, it really sucks. Just hoping when I get in there I don't find any other issues. Praying the bores are fine, as well as the camshafts/head.

How are things going with your motor Jason what did you find?
I got my motor apart and found that the knock was caused by the stock PCV system pumping some oil on the intake during decell after each pull, good news is that the piston and boores are all ok, bad news is that the main bearings and jurnals are damaged, most likey from not cleaning the crank well enough before assembly (shame on me) so the crank is getting machined, nwe acl bearings and weisco rings are going back when i er assemble the bottom end as well as a dual feed breather catch can

Well, I've decided to go a different route. I have never been really happy with the megasquirt, and am sick of dumping money in to the turbo setup. After a lot of thought/number crunching, I have decided to pull the turbo setup out, sell it, and put in a 5.0 v8 drivetrain (my other toy is a 91 mustang gt, so I have a lot of the parts laying around here). After selling all the turbo stuff, I should be ahead financially.
As far as the engine goes, I pulled the second oil filter off, and it looked good. I have the engine out and half apart, and have not found problems yet. Once I have the head off, I'll dig in to the bottom end to verify all is well.
So, if there are any parts you are looking for, I'm posting it all in the for sale forums.
Best of luck with yours.
