mspnp start-up problem 1993 NA
Hi guys, after installing every parts necessary to start up my car, mspnp in the glove box to have a better view of it.
I didn't have the CD when I purchased it used from a member here. So I decided to start the car with the base map it had inside (bad idea I KNOW but I was assuming that, in that short period of time, I would be able to detect any leaks from the manifold, turbo, downpipe...and also if the ignition part was operating properly)
The car started roughly, engine shaking for the bad ignition timing, for 45 seconds and It shut down by itself when I first applied the gas to go up to 2000rpm.
Tried to start it once more and no more light on the mspnp...I installed my OEM computer and the car wasn't starting either. We hear the explosion in the exhaust system, the starter turns quick from the 850cca brand new battery, but no results...it seems like it want to start on the first 2-3 seconds as I turn the key then it becomes rougher and wont start...
After spending 3K in my project, Im uber-bummed about the whole process, 4 months I've been working on the car, rebuilt engine, greddy turbo kit, the whole nine...440RC, mishimoto rad. Broken my piggy bank for the car...
Help me guys identifying what could be problematic, give me ideas on what to look for...Do I need to send the mspnp to DIY to diagnose if its still good or what???

OEM computer + 440cc injectors = Engine Flooded with Fuel
MSPNP with Original Basemap + 440cc injectors = Engine Flooded with Fuel
If you want to confirm the above, you should be able to get it running with the OEM injectors. Then, you can put in the large injectors and adjust the Req. Fuel value for the MSPNP. Baby steps.
Initial learning curve is steep. It gets easier. Just calm down.

yeah, the fuse has been removed.
First, when I turned the key to ''on'', the mspnp was lit red ,the car shut down after idling roughly for 40 seconds, it shut down by itself like it has no more gas, tried to get the car started again but the mspnp had no more red light...

I checked all the fuses in the fuse box next to the right shock tower, they all seems fine, is it possible I burned the ignitor or the mspnp??
I assume trying to start the engine with the base map and 440 isn't the best idea but I though that it might be able to run with a light gas pedal pressure. As I pressed the gas when idling roughly, the car died and never got started again...
Is the mspnp CD is mandatory for a good install??

I had the same symthoms when I first put in my mspnp. your engine will start again on the stock ecu, but its probably flooded badly, pull out a spark plug and check your getting a spark on the stock ECU, after turning it over a lot it will clear and splutter to a start.
As for your mspnp. mine didn't respond to the laptop and the red leds that lit up the red case also did not glow. I later found out that the mspnp I had bought second hand had the variable tps mod done. All very well but I was using the stock tsp. the stock tps needs to be disconnected is you have vtps in the ecu.
I havent tried to connect or run the car since finding out the above so I cannot be certain, but its easy to try.

Nope, that won't work. It will dump way too much fuel and soon the plugs get so much fuel and soot on them it won't be able to light off the already hard to light off mixture. What you describe was EXACTLY what the MSPNP will do under these circumstances. It has no way of automatically detecting your injector size. You've got to tell it what you have here.

After working on the car last weekend, we found that connecting the tps on my car cuts the current in the mspnp and injector relay. After disconnecting it, the power came back on. the relay is getting hotter while functionning btw (any hints??)
Then, we ran into another trouble... the laptop we used doesn't recognize the usb to db9 cable. We used Kaboshe's older laptop that had a db9 plug and used HIS com cable (db9 to s-video)
then, we had to transfer the codes from my laptop on a usb key and loaded them in his computer to get the communication. His laptop is not compatible with the HR_11g codes so we had to choose a map to get the two computers talking together.
After we got the req fuel set up, we found that I had ---- in tanks that dislodged when we put 20L of 94octane gas. It clogged my injectors.
I had to remove the injectors and fuelrail and sent the injectors to a specialized shop that ultrasonic-clean them.
Any advice to get rid of the rust 'mud' that is in my fuel system.
At the point were at, the car has yet to be timing adjusted on the crank mark with the timing light. It ran for a minute until it clogged again.
Guide me through what you guys would do. I thought about taking a pan that can contain 10 gallons, putting my oem miata fuel pump put in there, connecting it to a battery with a fuse on the +. Connecting my fuel feed line to the return line with a diesel fuel filter between the two. Trying to catch all that remains in the system with the filter.
Opening the top of the fuel tank, drying it and try to catch all the mud thats in the tank.

figured out that it was set for a variable tps once we unplug it and the MS turned back on
i tried everything and wasn't able to comunicate with the MS exept by using the 029y4 code, and even then, it sent me a couple of warning but i was able to log in and set the basinc setting/timing ect.
we founded the problem, mr.na forgot to say that there was so much ---- in the fueltank that it cloged the filter/injector for sure.make sure that everything is perfectly clean and up to date before trying to run this car.

Actually, for the clogging issue, I found out at the same time as you...but what do think about the solution I mentionned the post before, sounds good to you to flush fuel system???
I forgot to say that I will use a clear see through fuel filter when doing the flush to be sure the gas is purged from the isht.

Do you mean change the gas tank?? I though about changing the fuel filter, fuel pump filter, chamber cleaner in the fuel feed and return lines, removing the mud in the gas tank bottom by hand and wipe everything that I can get off, get the injectors cleaned and start it up...
Do you think about something else I should be doing??
I just dont want to change the tank..
