Time for a Hans. Running a Sparco Sprint which I think/measures @ 10 deg layback, tilted @ 5 deg back. Tried on a couple 20 deg hans in the pits yesterday, a size small older version (pre belt keepers) and a medium Sport ll, which I actually strapped into. Seemed to be digging into my chest plate. Looking into the adjustable version to better match the 10/15 deg layback. What are your thoughts on the Adjustable version?
my specs; 5'7", 125 lbs, 14 1/2" neck measured against bare skin. Am I supposed to measure the neck with my Nomex and Suit on?

Morning Joe,
The adjustable Hans is meant for people who want to buy one Hans device but have two cars, one a Formula car and one a traditional GT style. The 20 deg lean of the Hans doesn’t necessarily need to match your seat’s deg. It should match the overall deg of the seat when installed into the car by -+15deg. For example a formula car has a seating position of 45deg. For these cars you would want the 30deg Hans. Another example: traditional Gt car that has a seat Porsche, miata, corvette. The seat in question could have a seat back of 12 deg, and when mounted it leaned another 10 deg back for a total of 22 deg. In my experience setting up a seat like this is quite normal. For that you will want the 20 deg. If we get it backwards and use a 20 deg Hans in say a skip barber formula car, the Hans will actually hit the rear firewall, and not let you sit comfortably.
In my experience the adjustable is great for someone wanting to switch back and forth from formula cars to Gt cars. It is a heaver unit, so if you’re not going to do that I would go for the less expensive and lighter sport model.
For the sizes you provided I would recommend a medium size with a 20 angle.
HANS Device - Sport II
With your situation and the Hans digging into your chest I’m wondering if the harnesses are mounted correctly. I’m wondering if the shoulder harnesses are mounted either too low or too high. In my experience if anyone says the Hans is uncomfortable the harness was actually causing a unnecessary pressure point. With a well installed harness, and Hans’ sliding tethers the unit should not be noticeable when your strapped in.
