1st gear wheelspin?
Quick question for you greddy guys out there with 200+ whp. Do you guys break your tires lose in 1st? My car doesnt lose traction at all (which is fine with me) but just curious. I have rt-615 azenis in 195's on stock 14" daisies.
Yeah, and I would spin in 2nd if I punched it at 4K RPM at least until last week when I blew it up. I am on 195/50-15 Toyo T1-S. I suspect after I get the 1.8 in and the new setup, I will have to get more rubber out back.
I would lose traction with 205/15/50 Azenis 615 in 1st and 2nd gear (rarely in 3rd if it was a bit cold out) if I went to WOT while moving (not from a stop) near the sweet spot rpm ~4500.
not sure, if this counts, but i definitely broke my 195/14 RS-2's loose the other day messing with my MBC and going out for a test run. throttle pinned in second gear from 1.5k to see how it pulled, and where the boost ended up.
just before 4k i hit 10psi and the rear tires disconnected from the road... seems consistent with what brg is saying.

My car will definitely unhook 1st gear, even with 225/45s out back. That's on the 8psi setting. At 15psi, 2nd gear depends on pavement surface, air temperature, and whether or not I'm going uphill or not.

first gear is a writeoff. even stock with a clutch dump or not. the torque multiplier is just too great.
with 250 rwhp i break 2nd loose all the time with a roll-on start. the old freeway merge is a killer.
the other day it was cold out and I think I caught some 3rd gear roll-on scratch but I can't be sure.

240+rwhp with the 1.8/3.90 torsen/5 speed/205 T1R's I do not break the tires loose in first unless I delibrately try to.
Older setup, same thing but GT2560R on the 1.6, I did.
It has more to do with how smooth the power delivery is. The 1.6 was very peaky where the 1.8 setup was very linear.

not a greddy but racing some integra the other night my tires break loose in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd and i never launch hard. if i cruise in 1st or 2nd and mash the peddle around 4000 rpm the tires break loose too. i'm running 215/45/15 t1r's and they never squeel, they just leave stripes. i also run a 3.90 rear with 5 speed trans so my gearing is even taller than stock. 225/50/15's just arrived yesterday so maybe that'll help even with the new twin turbo setup
Yup, first and second are "smoke show" gears when/if called upon. I haven't datalloged anything yet with my 4.10's, but I'm assuming that it just makes the boost hit sooner.
yeah temperature has a lot to do it, first I can never hammer down, second when it's hot out only gets a little squirmy, but in the cold it will spin when the boost hits hard. I still have the stock suspension so i suspect people with stiffer setups might have worse straight line wheel spin.
