Default BEGI-S 1989-1993 Turbo kit NOOB Questions

This kit comes with everything I need for a basic complete turbo kit right? I'm just looking for a basic turbo kit for my DD, nothing extreme or high end power. Just an extra umph for my 1.6.

The kit says it features the BEGi Rising Rate Fuel Management Unit. And when ordering at the bottom of the page, on Fueling option, it has the FMU selection on there. Is this FMU option the same as the BEGi Rising Rate Fuel Management Unit?

What is the difference between BEGi Rising Rate Fuel Management Unit and the BEGi Fuel System for $250.00 more?

I don't want to end up buying EXTRA parts.

Yes I'm a Noob and feel free to make fun of me

Don't get the FMU. Or any fuel management at all. Its a known fact that stock miata fuel system is good to about 292hp.
Just get the base kit, slap a boost controller, set it at 17psi, and call it a day.
Easy 250hp
Good luck

I can't believe I'm dong this. The only reason I'm doing this is because at least he found BEGi and begged us to make fun of him.

Listen up Noob, fill out your signature and put your location in your profile... this is standard fare when joining any forum.

The kit does exactly what it says it does on the BEGi website... it comes with everything you need to run about XX boost and make about XXXwhp. I think it's about 6psi and 150whp.

If you read in the FAQ, you'd see that the stock in-tank fuel pump is good for about 80psi rail pressure, which on the stock injectors and stock ECU is good to fuel about 8psi of boost. To get 80psi in the rail, you need the FMU. The key to getting more fuel is a combination of larger fuel pump (BEGi Fuel System) and larger injectors, along with the FMU. The stock ECU can reliably idle injectors up to about 330cc... plenty from Toyotas that are PnP. The Walbro 190lphHP pump will push more than 130psi of rail pressure, which when combined with some 305/310/330cc injectors has fueled many a Miata to 15psi of boost (mine included). The tune sucks and you must also use a Bipes and O2 clamp to keep from running like complete ****.

Walbro+Bipes+O2clamp+330's+FMU= THE FULL BANAID MONTY!

Of course once you push past 6-7psi, some form of charge cooling becomes more mandatory, either an intercooler or water injection. BEGi sells kits or you can DIY one very easily from CXRacing and HomeDepot... and have a great looking unit.

What this all means is that about 2 weeks after you've been driving the car at 6psi, you'll wonder what 8psi feels like. After you buy the intercooler and fuel pump, you'll read that some people have decent luck making 10psi, and you'll turn up the boost. The car will run like ****, so you'll buy a used Bipes and O2clamp. Then you'll take it to the dyno and find out your fuel curve sucks and it only make 170whp... so you'll get some injectors and take it back to the dyno where you find that 15psi makes about 200whp but your fuel curve (although driveable and not really dangerous) is total ****.

Then you'll wish you'd listened to this thread where everybody is really trying to tell you that what you need to buy is the BEGi-S system minus the FMU. Get a Megasquirt from BEGi instead or have somebody on this board build you one. Also look in the classifieds for a set of used RX7 440/460/550cc injectors. You don't even really need a wideband to run a simple map and have awesome driveablilty at the stock 6psi without an intercooler. A couple months down the road, add an intercooler, clutch, and wideband and turn boost up to 12psi. Drive for many years at 200whp, perfect reliability, and be all-in for the same money (and far less ***-pain) than the bandaid route. If you're careful, you probably won't even need to replace the stock 6" dif if you stay away from drifting and drag-launches. My 6" dif was still rocking strong after about 40k boosted miles at 200whp.

And fill out your ******* location and signature or I will take your mother out for a nice steak dinner and never call her again.

Ok so the best suggestion would be the BEGi-S with MegaSquirt, bigger injectors, intercooler, and wideband..... Is this setup still a smog legal set up?

Ill probably upgrade to the 7" diff since Im more than likely going to "attempt" drifting and race my buddies.

Thanks for the advice (P.S. my mom likes sushi dinners =] )

Anything with a megasquirt is not CA smog legal. That doesn't mean you can't pass smog with MS installed, but you also can't go advertisng to the smog tech that you got a standalone ecu installed.

As soon as you add the Megasquirt it's no longer a smog legal setup.

This is something you would have found very quickly by reading up on Megasquirts and I'll be very surprised if it's not covered in the FAQ.

Notice a theme? READ THE FAQ.

thats good to know, the smog guy i go to doesnt ask questions, he pretty much throws the sniffer in the muffler and starts the check. If megasquirt doesnt effect the numbers on the check, i should be good. Thanks again guys =]

Another question: I know a lot of guys here do circuit racing and auto X, does anyone drift in the miatas?

The MS won't magically pass/fail your ****. It will only do what you program it to do.

Answering questions that have been overlooked or just flat out ignored...

I recently got my BEGI-S kit in the mail. and yes it does come with everything you need to be up and running roughly 4-6lbs of boost just slapping it on. the rising rate fuel management unit is what BEGI uses to help out your stock system. its what people refer to as the "spaceship" looking regulator that comes with the kit. the part/parts that you are referring to that cost roughly $250 is "from my understanding" some sort of secondary pump+lines etc. that helps your fuel pump crank out more fuel??? I think you'd be better off just buying a Walbro pump that matches your set up. thats what im gonna do. then you could ditch the spaceship under your hood and go with a basic fpr.

also someone mentioned that you could just get the kit, slap it on, get a boost controller, set it to 14psi and be making 250. I cant see this happening with such a basic set up. youll def need to upgrade numerous things and do some tuning to make these numbers. I dont see these numbers being reachable without IC, Bigger Injectors, and maybe even a better turbo. I dont think the little 2554 china charger can make such power. if it did, I dont think that it wouldnt last long at all.

Oh also...unless you are local, you are going to wait a VERY long time on receiving everything. BEGI IS HORRIBLE WHEN IT COMES TO CUSTOMER SERVICE! or atleast in my case.
I was on a miata forum the other day just reading around and i stumbled across a few post talking about how horrible their experience was aswell. This almost made me get a refund for my kit. having to pay restocking fee or not! That was my mission today but after calling them and them telling me that my parts had come in and that it would be in the mail tomorrow, I kindly changed my mind.

Ok first of all, you should not have to wait a month for a turbo kit period. that was the soonest they could get me everything when ordering it on the phone. they claimed that parts needed to be made to order. they never told me that parts had to be ordered from a 3rd party. I mean, why would they tell their customers that??? after patiently waiting a MONTH AND 2 DAYS, I gave BEGI a call with them telling me that they are still waiting on parts (the china charger). I gave them about a week for the "parts" to come in..........call them back....Nope...not ready yet. i then began questioning their "shipping manager" about what parts were being waited on and why they havent come in. She told me that the guy that they go through was on vacation or some BS. after about another week going by and me calling back almost daily I started searching around online for other kits. A few days go by with no feedback from them, I give them possibly my final call before getting my money back and they tell me that the turbo finally comes in (TO THEIR SHOP). SO I STILL HAVE TO WAIT for them to do whatever they do before shipping it to me! insane! i get nothing for my wait but a few im sorrys and a confession that my order was looked over accidentally.

Expect no call backs....EVER! also expect NO EMAILS....EVER! and they will take your number and email address every time you speak with someone on the phone from BEGI. i believe they train their employees to take name/number/email to give the customer hope/confidence/reassurance in getting good customer service.

I may still use their turbo set up but I will do my best to give them a bad name. and if you read another post about their shitty service, believe it and hope that you dont get the same shitty service.

ps. Im Stilllll waiting hahahaha

Dang, broski.......Cool story and Ima let you finish, but your sarcasm meter needs to be re-tuned.

PS: I said 17psi. Not 14. With 14 it won't work. Only 17

Oh and bro, if you need any more help we got tons of bros on here that will give you great advice bro. Peace out broski

whatever broski!
even if i did screw up the numbers....if 14lbs would be bad for the chinacharger then imagine what 17lbs would do to it. hows that for sarcasm. dont waste your time or other peoples by leaving pointless comments. for goodness sakes, if someone was noob-enough to take up you up on your info, you would be costing them countless amounts of $$$.

14lbs is bad for the chinacharger? 17lbs is even worse? Do share with us how you came to such a smart and well thought out conclusion.

Bend me over your knee? Sorry don't swing that way. I'm a giver, see.
You should contact Pusha or Faeflora if you're looking for that type of pleasure though.
