Default BEGI S Tempermental Tuning

Im Running a BEGI S @ 10PSI on my 03. XEDE 55cc new RC injectors

Got two problems, pinging between 2-3K rpm medium loads not full throttle.
Second my freaking car will drive nice after it is tuned and a few weeks later, its runs like crap.

Still trying to find time to check the timing belt which may be problem 1, but problem 2 has me baffled.

Stephanie did a great job on the tuning a few weeks ago but now if I give the car light throttle, after 4k rpms the car runs so rich it starts bucking and bouncing like a wild bull. My gas millage had changed from 23 down to 19

My car has been this way since i first added the kit and Im at a complete loss.

Anyone else had this problem? Suggestions? Stuff to check?

Hmm maybe, but I know that a month ago I ran through every connection checking and testing for leaks, but I guess it couldnt hurt to retest them all again.

Maybe make up a boost leak tester. Paul made a nice one out of an aftermarket valve stem and a soup can.

Why don't you break down the entire mod-list on the car for us.... and I mean EVERY SINGLE PART!

I don't see mention of an Intercooler? If you're running 10psi w/no intecooler and using fuel to keep temps down, no wonder you're running pig-rich. I don't suppose you accidentally installed the AFPR as well? I know you said Steph tuned it... but can't hurt to rule out the obvious no matter how silly.

And at 10psi, no way you should be getting as little as 23mpg unless you're an absurdly agressive on the boost. I never fail to get less than 26mpg and my EBC runs 15psi.

Sounds like your 02 sensor might be faulty.

Yeah I get crappy city MPG, 25+ freeway if I do 70.

Any way here is my kit

T25 Tiny Turbo (oil and water cooled)
BEGI intercooler 1
BEGI 2.5in steel downpipe
BEGI Coolant bypass (redirect)
BEGI Cool air radiator scoop
BEGI Cold air box
BEGI Mitsubishi recirculation valve

550cc RC injectors (new)

FM Dual 2.5in turbo exhaust with midpipe and CAT no resonator

Real oil pressure gauge mod
LC1 Wide band, stock O2 still going to ECU
Xcede FMU

Thats it,

I like the pressure cap idea, I used soapy water but I couldn't think of a way to pressurize the system.

Could be timing belt. Could also be a clogged fuel filter. Change the fuel filter, if that does not fix the problem, service the timing belt.

Bad O2 sensor? Dirty MAF? The stock ECU can compensate for some mechanical problem for awhile and then it may fall on it's face. Do you have any engine codes?

Hey Stephanie,

I dont think that I have a bad 02 as my wide band shows the car it handeling closed loop operation pretty well. Im sure my MAF is clean as it was looked spotless before I took the car to you a month ago.

I probably will set it up for a leak test and hope that is the problem, do you guys put perminex in your intake hosing to help seal them? Might try this if I find a leak as im growing very tired of working on the car, I was hoping that by now I could just get in and drive.

I was even thinking of trashing the xede for a real ecu if it would help me from having the random problems. Not saying the xede is the problem but its nice to have a real ecu that I can more easily data log on and figure out what the heck is going on.

The only engine code that I have was cause from me disconnecting the VCAM survo to see if it was working or not. Thought that maybe it was not working as fuel is off after 4K rpm and this is where that CAM is suppose to change timing. Problem got worse so Ill assume it was working.

What would be nice is if there was a calculation to convert boost to load in the xede haven't figured this one out yet.

If you have an LC-1 then you should be able to log from it and from the XEDE simultaneously using Logworks.

not unless they came up with a plugin for the new xede firmware, right now only Version 2 can do this. Sucks seriously!!

We are currently using firmware 3.2.1.16. I have sent files to innovate. It is just a matter of time before they have an update. But seeing as how it took them a year to do the 3.0 version......

Louis,
We do not permatex the inlet tubes. I remember all this stuff now. We have already triple checked most everything. So... if anyone has any better ideas, we are all ears!

I've completely had this. Car ran just fine for weeks and then just horrible horrible, mostly in city driving. Unplugged the ecu for a while, plugged it back in went away for a day or so then back on its face. Was o2 related.

He's coming over to my place tomorrow to borrow my boost leak tester. I just remembered I've got a full OBDII scanner so I'll read all the codes and long term/short term fuel trims and post that information up if it can be of any help.

I got one too, but my laptop battery is completely dead and my inverter, doesnt seem to be able to support the laptop with the bad battery, so that might help. Im probably going to disconnect the battery to reset the ECU but I dont think that it will help, my fuel trims should be good in closed loop as the car is able to maintain it very well.

By the way I calculated 17mpg when i filled up yesterday. So what ever it is its getting worse, maybe i should drive a little more and see what falls off.
