BEGI Shanghai Stay or Go
I purchased a used Shanghai kit locally from a 1996 at a good price and intend it for my 1999. Has 550 injectors, LC1, Ebay Intercooler, Stainless lines, and BOV. I am building my 99 for a weekend car and an occasional autocross/track day, and I am looking for 200WHP max. Is this kit a good idea for that use? Will it be reliable? I don't want to spend my track days working on the car, but I think the turbo would be great fun on the street. I am also considering putting a header on the car and selling the kit; maybe buying a better setup in the future. Any suggestions?
You may need to do some work to the downpipe in order for it to fit in your 99 as I believe the NA and NB are slightly different.
Ensure you have a proper engine management setup and you're good to go.
200whp is easily attainable with what you have.

What are you doing for engine management?
Take a look at Begi's web sight to compare the Shanghi S vs S1 ect. I assume it came with a turbo. A genuine T25 from an SR20 is supposed to be better then the chinacharger, but either one will work.
Don't forget a clutch.

Does anyone have any track experience with this kit? Anything I need to modify or watch for with occasional track use? I assume Iconel studs at the manifold and possibly welding two piece downpipe. Based on the comments, I think I will get the Megasquirt, injectors, and clutch together and figure out the tune so I can then install the turbo kit.
Kit is fine minus any modifications you may have to do in order to install in on your car. Nobody has any beef on FM or BEGI kits. That is except perhaps the S4 but that is just the nature of the type of manifold and looks like it has been modified to be reliable.
