I'll bite. I was planning to get the FM Voodoo II kit, but this price tag looks much more appealing.

What "additional parts" are needed here? How is fuel management taken care of?

EDIT: I have a 99 Miata that is currently built for STR in autox (shocks and springs, IHE) I'm really just looking for some extra "oomph", i think the 180wph advertised by FM in their Voodoo kit sounds just fine to me--i'd like reliability over massive power. I do DD this miata quite often in the summer.

Nope, nothing extra. Just bolt it all in and fill up with 93 and its good to make 275hp reliably on the stock block. No problem at all.

Thanks for the thread, I'll read up on it. I've been doing my research and had pretty much settled on the voodoo ii, but this looks like a good option.

I've done intake work, exhaust work, helped swap a diff, installed a rollbar.. I figured I can handle the install just fine, I just don't know anything about tuning- - which is why the voodoo kit was appealing. I do have friends with tuning experience tho.

 

You're being trolled. The eBay kit is a horrible option, and the members here openly ridicule people who are stupid enough to waste money on it. In fact, because its downfalls are discussed here so regularly, they openly ridicule people who even ask whether it's any good or not.

Trust your initial research. Buy quality new/used parts or order from a bespoke supplier (ARTech or similar).

 

Thanks. From looking at it, it seems the only thing it's really missing is engine management, which as I said is where I'm most ignorant, so I wasn't really sure. Also oil return line? But that should be easy enough..

Anyways its just hard because I know that the FM kit is a great choice, but I also know that you can put together decent stuff by getting parts not as a "pre-made kit". I did my projector retrofit for less than half that a buddy paid, and mine looks and works better. It doesn't seem unreasonable to me that there's a workable kit out there for roughly half the FM stuff..

But yes, I think I'll just stick with voodoo ii.

Step 1, get your car running on a megasquirt. Then you can start figuring out how to turbo it.

I had a Voodoo II FM kit a while back, very high quality and the support was great. Was on a 99 10th.

I would avoid the e-bay kits like the plague - I have seen so much b.s. involving those. Whatever savings you get, you will blow in replacing parts or things needed to make it work/fit properly.

if your on a budget and want a great high quaility kit look at the used miata parts for sale on here. i got 2 great kits for sale now and both can do 300whp all day. one is HKS/ Garrett and the other is artech/garrett. anyone here would say those are both great kits and better starting point then ebay or a new kit with less bang for the buck. there are other kits for sale used that would be a great start here on the sale threads just search. i spent 5 k plus when i bought my first fm2 kit. and it was great and still runs strong. but i wish i would have spent less and got a better kit used and had extra $$$ for upgrade clutch and better ecu like mega squirt or rev/ brian built units. dont wate your money on ebay turbo. the only thing you can buy on ebay is intercooler and pipes , some times a race radiator , but thats it.

 

Is this kit available for a 1.6? And as far as engine management is concerned. What other decent affordable options are their? I hear mega squirt uses a very outdated motherboard configuration and kinda made cheap. I mean for 700 PNP is should be some good materials. Opinions?

My Miata is a le with some low miles with all the comfort stuff like ac/cruise. I don't think it plays a factor from what I have read and heard.

Not sure if trolling... If serious: Did you read this thread at all before posting? Go back and read through it. The ebay kits are crap. Megasquirt is used on most of the turbo builds on this forum for a good reason- it works.
