Default Bipes & Timing

Just curious what I should set base timing with my Bipes. I have heard 10, 12, and 14 degrees BTDC. I have a 90 Greddy miata.

I'd personally go with 12-14 to gain some low-end. pull enough not to ping then 1* for safe measure

with no intercooler or alky I'd set it to 14* and have the bipes pull it down to 6*.

I found with my car, I could run 10 degrees base, and pull about 6 degrees... but that was subject to the amount of heat soak (and elevation).... I found with more elevation, like when running around the gap, that you would need to pull more -- especially without having the O2 clamp.....

This was with a non-IC'd blower though.....

finally bought one...can't wait but haven't got it yet. it's hot as "you know what" in florida should I be cautious of that and not try 14 or 12 due to the additional heat soak? Also i see to pull the timing back to 6degrees; anyone know about the intake temp setting? A little key visual would be awesome!

Base Timing: 12 or 14?
RPM: 1000/2000/3000/4000/5000/6000/7000
Retard: 0/0/0/2/4/6/8
Intake Temp: ??deg for ??

Running about the same as above. stock greddy no/intercooler or alky.

I have corky bell kit with intercooler and no bipe or msd. should I still retard the timing to 6* BTDC or something else?

How much boost are you running? Every setup is different...everyone's got different turbos, different intercoolers, different size exhausts (less backpressure on a turbo exhaust means more timing advance is possible), etc.

If you're running 6-8psi, I'd suggest trying 6-10° of timing. In what type of climate do you live?

I'm running 10 or so BTDC with my bipes, no intercooler, alky injection, or any other mod like that. It pulls nicely but it so damn peaky in power delivery, I have an IC I'm just too lazy to put piping together.

You need an o2 clamp....had the same issue but it's fixed now!
