I am thinking of changing my motor (1.6) its leaky and has over 100k - now I know this is not much but it may just be easier to swap in a new one than change out all the seals and gaskits and still have the insides old.

So I was also thinking if I was going the new engine route what about the 1.8 - so is there a manifold that bolts up that I can still keep the greddy? I know that ppl run the greddy on the 1.8 so just asking for assitance.

What's the motivation behind this? If you're thinking that the extra .2 litres is worth the miniscule power gain, I wouldn't bother. Spend the money you'd have to blow on a new manifold and the swap kit and save the time and energy of actually doing the swap and get in on the Devils WI Group Buy and just turn up the boost.
Swapping in a used 1.6 is easier than doing the 1.8 swap. You have looked into what it takes to do the swap, right? Are you planning on swapping in a whole 1.8, electronics and all?... or are you going to use the 1.6 stuff and just put the 1.8 block in there?

For naturally aspirated guys, the 1.8 makes sense, but for FI, just turn up the boost an extra 1psi and you're there. Makes more sense to me anyways with used 1.6 long blocks going for $200 or less.

 

The 1.6L block and head are different sizes than the 1.8L block and head. You can't mix-n-match.

That said, you'd be surprised what a difference in spool and torque you'd see from the extra 200cc of displacement.

If you can find me a decent used 1.6 with a long nose crank around here for $200, I'll give you a $100.

 

Yeah I'd agree that the 1.8 swap would be worthwhile. Flip through the dyno sheets at FM's website. A 94-95 block with a 99 head would be ideal. 250 hp would be easy.
