Default MSD description at FM website

they say the unit only starts to retard timing at 4psi.

http://www.msdignition.com/page.aspx?id=4209
"Retards timing 6 degrees under boost, starting at 4 psi. "

On an old post from Brain he says it works diferently.
"The MSD unit retards the timing 3° per pound of boost pressure with no more that 6° of retard being allowed"

I called them just to be sure, and what they said was that it was safe to run 4psi on the stock 10º timing. That there was no need to retard timing untill 4, hence it would only work at higher pressure. I also was recommended to drive around with the top up and windows closed to listen for any audible knock... is it just me or this is a really dangerous advice?

I value my motor, I'm not saying you can't do this, because you can, but I wouldn't trust myself to hear every knock event.

Bandaids are ok for simple setups but once you've got 3-4 of them, it kinda defeats the purpose of why bandaids exist to begin with.
