Also looks to be crazy hard to bolt that thing up, having all the runners block the lower bolts. Just wow...

Don't need em.

Next remove all the studs from the head that hold the header, we discover this is the easiest way to just "drop" the manifold with the turbo and down pipe. no need to unbolt the engine.

Next just insert 1 or 2 studs back on the head, to when you drop the whole thing you can use them to hang it.
Seems like a great weight saving strategy.

We could probably do it, we have enough users spread out over enough unique IPs...

that downpipe is awful, too. pie cuts? check. shitty o2 location? check.
all that for only $5k?

trackslut 11-21-2012 03:20 AM

After seeing this FM kits seem like they are made by the hands of the big man himself. And they are cheaper... WTF?

I love how everyone on m.net was jumping up and down in excitement. I can't believe that. I'm so glad I didn't sign up there....

TurboTim 11-21-2012 08:06 AM

I think the BEGI NC manifold looks pretty good.

gorillazfan1023 11-21-2012 08:46 AM

Jebus Christ, now my first turbo manifold looks good, sawzall machined flanges and all... I mean come one, even my pie cuts look better, and I only did that because I needed the car running as soon as possible.

Did you start to cry when you saw the downpipe?

Like honestly, they couldn't use/make a smooth bend?

Braineack 11-21-2012 08:52 AM

I just clicked the link and saw who made this thing. It explains everything.

darkcambria 11-21-2012 08:57 AM

Aside from how bad the welds are, I'm really glad I don't have to work in those engine bays.

thenuge26 11-21-2012 09:10 AM

Wait did he say they used SS because it was more expensive than mild steel? WTF? Don't you guys complain that the mild weld-els are more expensive than the SS ones? Am I missing something here?

TurboTim 11-21-2012 11:22 AM

Yes you are missing something. Stainless weld elbows cost more than mild weld elbows.

Unless I am missing something.

hustler 11-21-2012 11:30 AM

That looks like some garbage I would spend a lot of money making, then putting in the trash and installing an NA engine, lol.

RedCarmel 11-21-2012 11:50 AM

Poking around that section at m.net has been very interesting. I was not aware FM was having trouble with their SC tunes and that there was so much mudslinging and just weird stuff going on between competing tuners.

Braineack 11-21-2012 12:11 PM

"tuners" would be more appropriate.

Braineack 11-21-2012 02:39 PM

I like the part where they take a GTX2863 in a tial v-band turbine housing, replace it with a shit garrett one.

use a gasket between the turbo and manifold.

weld the turbo to the manifold.

and then proceed to use bolts to hold them together...not studs. Using washers to clearance the depth of the bolts that hit the shitty runners.

I cant wait until the bolts back out, the gasket blows and then they have a hell of a time grinding off welds and resurfacing the flange because of.

I didn't even get that far, honestly. I didn't notice the turbo welded to the manifold, either. I was too busy laughing at the 1-4 runners pointing directly at each other.

Braineack 11-21-2012 02:45 PM

They aren't point at each other, they angle back upward against the flow slightly due to the stupid bends they picked.

but, I will give them this, it IS a better design than the prototype manifold of BEGi's that they are trying to improve apon.

You don't understand,

FAIL + FAIL + FAIL + FAIL = WIN

Duhhhhh

I dunno, the welds might just pop off :giggle:
