Default Newbie question

So I’ll preface by saying, I’m new to the Miata turbo and have spleen reading quite a bit to learn as much I can. Ipretty much know I want to go with a Kraken kit because they are really good from all I’ve read and have great flow.
My question is what is the difference in the Garrett 25-550 and the 2560R turbos that Kraken offers?
My car is a 2001 Miata with the hard s package on it. Not sure that matters so I’m throwing it in there. It has around 100k on the clock. I’m not looking for any crazy hp numbers, but I would like to see around 225 hp. This will be on a stock block for now until I build something better. This isn’t a daily, but I would like reliability.
I like to take it out now and then and would like to be able to drive say 3-4 hours away for trips and such. I give you guys this info because reading these threads on this forum, a lot of you guys know a lot more than I so I’m looking for advice, as well as an answer to my question so I can make an informed decision.
I currently have frame rail braces on the car, fortune auto coil overs on the way, and that’s about it. It is a 6 speed with the lsd rear end.
Thanks
for any help and advice. This is my first post so kind of dumb it down a little for someone learning.

Dumbing it down. 2560R is for track orientated driving. It will spool slower but provide more flow(power) up top. The 2554R will spool quicker but provide less flow(power). Both turbos should get you to 225whp. If you plan to track the car regularly 2560r. If your on the street 2554r. Getting this kit to fit will take time, if your looking for ease of install I recommend the 2" AC intercooler piping. If you get the 2.5" AC delete piping you will need to rework coolant inlet, power steering, etc.... I also recommend getting your own lines for plumbing. Look at my install thread for details. https://www.miataturbo.net/prefabbed...-2560r-107801/

Thank you! I have already read through your entire install. I wanted to keep the PS at least. I really didn’t plan to track the car at the moment, just would like more get up and go and speed. I’ve had quite a few recommend the 2560R that Kraken has, but I want to make sure it has that go that I’m looking for. I would like to be able to step on the gas and take off I guess is the way I think. I feel like the car lacks that now. Hp wise, I’m looking to keep it “safe “ and not bend rods and such. I would like to be able to upgrade in the future if I ever decide to build a new block or even be able to run E85.
I don’t completely understand the E85 thing right this moment, but I read more and more about every day and see that’s something ppl are running too by changing the pump and such.

Your gonna want more power later. Get the 2560R with the 3" exhaust. It will spool fast enough for you.

thank you! That’s definitely the plan. I want to get the complete kit from kraken with the 3” exhaust.
it was recommended I go with the pulsar turbo that’s the Garrett clone, but I don’t know much about the Chinese stuff, I want to put quality parts on my car so it will last and if I decide to upgrade, I can sell those and make some money back to fund new parts.

For what it's worth, my Kraken setup with 2560r and 2.5" coldside (non-AC) piping has no noticeable lag at all. As long as the motor is spinning over 3k, you get all the boosts as soon as you hit the throttle. I track mine a lot but would buy this setup again if the car was being used for street only.

Just thought I'd provide another data point. 2560 all the way for this guy here.

2560r is still an amazing turbo. I'm running a Pulsar/Garrett hybrid, but recommend a genuine 2560r for everyone up to say ~270hp over any pulsar
