Since we know how to swap in the FE3, we know how to swap in the old F-series diesels. This also means that the MZR-CD should be pretty straightforward.

For ALL THE AIDS, the old RF diesel was also available in "Comprex" form, which specified a pressure-wave supercharger.

Wait, if I'm reading wikipedia right, the skyactive D is just another F engine variant, but with an aluminum block... Must have.

Yup. Pretty much. The F engine will never die.

Would bang.

Now if only there was an affordable standalone that could do a direct injected diesel.

Last year i removed my old FM/Bell 4.2 from my 1.6 and installed a FMII with Hydra 2.7 and had it tuned by Ken Hill (233 hp). Have been a loyal customer of FM since Bill Cardell had the Dealer Alternative shop in NJ. IMHO few people know Miatas better than FM.

I think I'd rather slap a carb on it then go Hydra. At least if I needed someone locally to look at it, they could :v

Let's see. Bullet proof pnp kit from FM, great support from FM, firmware and software updates, drivable right out of the box, with one dyno tuning session (to fine tune things)passes NJ exhaust sniff test. Seriously thought about upgrading my old FM 1/Bell 4.2 system (now sitting lonely in a box in my basement) with MS but just did not have the time to learn how to learn to tune the ECU.

Within the next couple of weeks will be installing Toyo COP on the car. seems like a fairly straight forward proposition with the Hydra.

I know my car has had an old FM kit on it that was installed in 2007. 58k miles later, it still runs good! though the engine was rebuilt before the install..but still no problems with the kit itself. 8-10 psi on stock internals, around 200 hp. And im sure after 6 years, the kits have only gotten better.

I attest to this. Living in the Midwest, I've done a lot of subtle tweaking to various settings throughout the years. Tuning the car yourself, you will consisntently find little things that you'll want to improve upon. This, I believe, is primarily why so many of us opt to learn tune ourselves.

I think longevity is relative to the amount of work you want to put in. I've seen some really scrappy looking Miatas posted by new owners of neglected boosted Miatas from the Bipes days. They still run adequately, and some people continue to use that technology and be satisfied. Others modernize their setups and push the limits and blow up engines once a year.

Its all fun and games until you get fucked in the ***... assuming you dont like it of course since this is a miata forum... just like the people that were forced to update to 2.7 hydra. In other words they completely cut support for anything but 2.7 hydra... if you had anything lower than that you were stuck with an 800 bucks bill to upgrade and a dick up your ***.

I put a BEGI shanghi kit together on my car and have just over 45k miles on it now running between 8 and 13 psi... So it has been durable.

But it has been quite the problem child in its own way. Original fitment was a bitch!!! there were areas that BELL simply welded up wrong. I ported and sepatated the gasses on the wastegate, but it still spikes like crazy. The downpipe has always had a slight exhaust leak. It took over a month and a half to get all the parts to my house. The WG rod was too short. The turbo sometimes leaks a little oil out of the exhaust.

Other than that, it has been awesome!

Sounds like an FM II without electronics and some inconel studs, and a Reverent built MSPNP is the way to go?

If i had that sort of cash and wanted to make solid power with a minimum of blood, sweat, and tears, that's probably exactly what i'd do.

Or add a built motor and step up to the FMIIR kits.
