Default TurboTony is The Man!

My Tony downpipe and Cat arrived yesterday. All’s I gotta say is “Wow.”

I ordered the catalytic converter sight unseen, and let me tell you, it’s a beautiful piece. Magnaflow stainless, gorgeous welds… I also measured the actual catalyst bed and compared it to a stock replacement purchased a while back from Rozenthal- not only is the frontal area of the catalyst bed larger, the “core” is actually a full inch deeper as well. This ought to work well for those of us in the land of the smog polizei.

As to the downpipe, I had an idea of what to expect here, but it’s still pretty impressive to see it first-hand. Compared to the stock Greddy piece, well, it’s just not fair to compare the two. Calling this a “very nice downpipe” is a bit like calling the Taj Mahal a “very nice building.” Honestly, I wish I could weld even one-fifth as well as this guy. The seams are perfect, the bends are perfect... I ran my dial calipers up and down the twisty portion of the upper section and I can’t find a spot where it deviates more than a tenth of an inch from nominal.

It’s really strange what a difference a half inch makes, but looking at these pieces, I just can’t get over how very large they are. I must have spent five minutes last night staring into the mouth of the pipe going “ooooh.” Ok, I’d had a few margaritas by that point as well…

It's not coated yet- that's just the hi-temp paint that Tony sprays the pipe with. I'm planning on building a custom heat-shield, and I was afraid of interferance issues with the O2 sensor, so I had Tony build the pipe without an O2 sensor bung. I plan to test-fit the pipe, test-fit the shield, mark the sensor location I want, and have a local shop install the bung. Because of all these extra steps, I decided not to have it coated until it's done.

As to the flex section, it was only a few dollars more and I figure better safe than sorry. As much trouble as folks seem to have with manifold cracking, anything I can do to relieve stress is a plus in my book.

It'll be a while before this all gets installed. I'm waiting on my RX-7 injectors, which should be here next week. The turbo won't be going in until those are installed and calibrated. Believe me, looking at that thing just sitting there and knowing I have to wait is killing me.

Tony does not have a web site that I'm aware of. He's pretty active on this list, under the name turbotony. His email is turbotony2k@yahoo.com. The whole thing (downpipe and cat) came to a total of $355 shipped. You just can't beat that with a stick!

turbotony2k@yahoo.com

Just got my Downpipe and testpipe from Tony this week. Very nice looking and his turn around was less than 2 days once I decided on what I wanted.
