Default Who else does kits for 1.6 NA ??

Hi,

Have got the FI bug from starting down SC path, which is now being removed so that I can do it properly and add a turbo! (why I didn't do this first I can't remember).

Anywho... wondering whom to talk to about a kit.

I've tried FM and got fantastic responses, good information and a price to match. I'm very close to a commitment on the "FM II no electronics kit", but would like to compare that to other similar options.

I tried to contact BEGI, but my other posts say how that ended. I've left a post on their section and can only hope they will contact me.

Who else sells reasonable kits?

How bad are the eBay kits... that bad I assume!

Impossibly bad, ebay kits crack in a week of use.

PM ARTech, he's the "main" builder for 1.6s, outside of FM and BEGI.

You need to compare to FM's DIY turbo package, which is $750 for their cast manifold and two piece downpipe.

Abe will make you a log side mount manifold and 3" downpipe for $710, at least that's what he quoted and built for me:

So for $2250 (the FMII no electronics minus the $750) you're getting a turbo, intercooler and pipes, possibly a BOV? and I'm sure some other junk.

You can do it cheaper, but the main thing you're paying for is the turbo, which costs ~$750. So that's $1500 for an intercooler, pipes, bov, turbo hardware, and whatever else comes with a no-electronics kit.

Good products, but pricey if you ask me. Piecing together a DIY kit can be intimidating for a newb though.

This...from one noob to another.

I have a pieced together kit from over the years. FM old and new stuff, begi stuff and custom stuff. If I could just to it once I would do ARtech. Their stuff is just quality and isn't mass produced. I don't think you can go wrong with Fm or Begi though.

ARtech for DP and manifold
FM for an easy intercooler setup (or make a custom one)
Begi for all the heat shielding and coolant bypass.

Good luck, search alot and ask stoopid questions.

This DP made me a little wet.

Sorry, I've not paid much attention to this forum lately.

Too much goofing off.

Some dudes tend to chase me away.

Dorks like eric brown must be forgiven even though they know they speak with forked........... opps, cancel that, almost forgot I'm a Christian.

Sure we build a 1.6 turbo. Even our cheapest piece ......... look for yourself.

I bought stuff off abe too.. its class stuff and he is there to help after you get your parts.. you'd probably pick up a turbo off an sr20 for cheap.. you learn so much from diy jobs that I can't see you learning from a kit.. it just takes a bit longer I would imagine..

Aww Curly, you're killing me with that manifold pic. I don't think I've ever seen any before and after from the FM/BEGI cast manifold vs the log replacement, but that piece sure is beautiful. With some documented power gains I'm confident I wouldn't be able to keep my wallet in my pocket.

I've purchased parts Abe at ARTech on 2 occasions and couldn't have been happier.

If I pick up a 1.6 car...honestly I'm thinking of going with a tacotaco manifold, ebay T3, and then a downpipe from Abe. Piece together the rest, which will be painful, but more educational.

i agree that piecing together a kit yourself can be intimidating to a newb cause i was once there too but take ur time, do some research and not only will you save money, but youll probably have a better set up than any "kit" if you did your research right. good luck

if money is a concern i would suggest checking the classified section. BEGI has a nice manifold and separated gas downpipe but seriously lacks in the customer service area. FM has great products and awesome customer service.

My vote is FM, depending on your abilities and what you want.
