boost controller
Need your guys help installing this boost controller. I hooked up the bigger piece on, and it was boosting up to 7lbs, not good for no intercooler or meth injection.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ayphotohosting

no idea what the little thing is. Boost source should go in from the the bottom port and exit to the wastegate out the top port. Loosen the top bolt out all the way to acheive the least amount of boost. If it's still too much you may want to cut a coil or two off the spring inside.

The bigger portion is a regulator and the smaller portion is the part that has the ball and the spring. There are three parts that are on there, two are easy to flow through, and the one has the ball seated against it. Have any ideas. The regulator is basically a little needle valve, seems like it is going to be extremely touchy.

ok, then plug the little guy between the wastegate and MBC. this will allow some pressure to bleed off so it doesn't overload the wastegate can. most MBCs have a tiny little hole drilled into them on the outlet. It should allow you to fine tune you adjustments better.

What you have there is a knockoff of a TurboSmart in-cabin adjustable controller. The little tee shaped thing is the actual valve which goes between the boost source (compressor) and the wastegate can. It looks like the side port of the tee goes to the bottom port of the controller, and then the upper port of the controller just vents. I'm not sure I completely understand the internal workings of it, but here is a link to the .PDF instructions for the original device. I'm sure this one is pretty much the same.

I dont see how that in-cabin thing can work that way...
if the boost enters the tee, it also enters the wastegate. Then what do you plumb out of the MBC itself?
Screw the little square tee...what boost are you looking for? It may be hard to boost to a level less than what the wategate can is rated for

I'm guessing the **** is the "controlled bleed".
set it up so you have the little "tee" in line with the turbo and wastegate. I'm guessing the arrow is "flow direction", ie. points at the WG. the third (blue) port goes to the "in" of the **** thing--the bottom with the arrow. The top port on the **** thing is open to atmosphere.
The more air you bleed, the higher your boost is. you can try it out by blowing into the turbo side of the three-port thing and twisting the ****. low boost is when your air goes through the 3-port and not out the **** hole.
kinda like this, only your check valve is internal and you have no(?) restrictor.

MBC would act as a check valve, as the spring will push down on the ball as vacuum tries to suck at it. I'd perfer to do it the normal way, this will ensure fastest spool and who needs to adjust the boost on the fly.

I assume that the external controller therefore bleeds air from the pressurized side of the ball, biasing the point at which the tension of the spring is overcome and pressure is admitted into the can.

You are correct. It is hooked up exactly how y8s has it except for the ball and valve in the t. One of the ports on the **** is vented to atmosphere, the other is hooked up to the t with the t spliced into the line for the wastegate. Just took it for a ride, boosted up a hell of a lot quicker. Didn't mount the **** in the cockpit, just merely a more convenient spot. No burned hands here. I originally ordered this thinking that it was going to be just a normal boost controller, but was wrong. Joe is correct that it is a knock off of the turbo smart controller. It felt extremely strong and had no overshoot at all. Boost came up about 300-400rpm quicker than usual. Truly awesome, this will be one of the first things that I get along with the turbo when I do my next turbo'd miata. Now once I get the meth injection, I will slap the 305cc injectors in and turn up the boost. Should be fun. Thank you for the help guys, this was actually really simple after Joe pointed out that it was a knockoff. Thanks guys.

cool, thanks! by the way, do u get a max boost, then a consistant one? mines goes up to 8psi, then holds at about 6psi. i was wondering if this boost controller might get rid of that. also, i get inconsistant boost, some times the boost comes in hard like the car wanna charge, then other times, it seems like the car doesnt even have a turbo. But at all times, i can hear the HKS SSQ BOV!
