i'd only use wi to supplement an intercooler. with high boost and heavy load and you wi system fails you'll be sorry, if your intercooler fails you won't get boost and you might stall out no big deal
You mean the intercooler isn't just there to catch the bits of turbo after it inevitably explodes? Damn, my understanding of how this works has been wrong all along. :gay:
While WI and IC are both good, I see water injection as a big liability. With WI, you need to worry about running out of water/meth/whatever you're injecting, and you also need to worry about nozzle clogging, vs an IC where you have to worry about springing a leak. Yeah there's some lag with an IC, but I definitely wouldn't want to be running at 10 PSI if I run out of water, the nozzle clogs, the pump fails, there's a leak in the line...etc whereas with an IC you lose boost.

For my setup im doing a DIY WI, small IC, and a IC sprayer. I have a hi PSI pump for my WI, with a 2.5 gallon tank, and i also have a 2 gallon winshield washer res with built in pump. The pump is very low pressure, but with 2 mist nozzles attatched it was keeping about 30 psi, and putting out a nice mist. That is what im going to use for my spray system. I have a pressure switch to activate the WI, i have that attatched to a toggle switch in the cab, as well as a red LED telling me when the power is on, and a yellow LED telling me when the pump is running. i also have the same toggle set up for the sprayer. The spray has 2 modes, in mode one it is activated by a full throttle switch, or a trigger switch that is on my shifter. In mode 2 it is activated when ever the WI is activated. All pumps are opperated with relays. Hopefully it works!
I don't think I would drive around "leaning" on the water injection system except in racing situations. I sure wouldn't want to be completely without it though. If you do you are leaving alot on the table.
too much chance of something going wrong, pump shorts and pops a fuse, runs out of meth, line pops off or melts...
line clogs can be nearly eliminated by adding a high pressure (IE fuel injector) fuel filter in-line and replacing it on a regular interval. I'd imagine these nozzles have similar sized orifices to fuel injectors, and no moving parts. Running destilled water instead of tap also greatly reduces the odds.
