Honestly i don't even know how people can bear driving anything under 2500whp. And even that's only on a daily driver.

I like how my car is boring on power delivery like a diesel, yet sounds epic. When it comes to driving ok the track I want boring, constant power delivery. Turbo cars will almost always sound cooler than a flat plane V8 to me. I'm one of those weirdos who prefers the sound of a cross plane V8.

How about a turbo V6 swap with V8 drivetrain? Seems simple enough.

That is the dumbest idea I've ever heard.

Well I love my V8. As for a turbo having more lower torque don't know about that. I am north of 380foot pounds at 1700 rpm. With 440 at the wheels it hauls.....just doesn't feel it. That is also a function of the suspension bride seats and such. On cold days even with R compound the car feel wicked fast. Sure suprised folks on the track that day. Realed in everything. The only one that I just couldn't catch was the GT2 or 3 can't remember now. Either way he was quicker in the turns but I am going to fix that as I just installed Xidas. Nitto on 9's for the next track day.

I like all day power that doesn't have a split personality. Honestly the vette motor is a great power plant. No drama just gobs of power and a great rumble with the cam.

I would like to try a turbo car but doing it again would do the V8 again. Fwiw my car only gained about 180 pounds as a result of the transplant

A turbo motor will make the same power and torque where it matters (above 4500) and weigh significantly less. FYI, 200lbs is about 1.5sec/lap penalty.

You seem to be under the belief I am saying a V8 miata is quicker around the track than a Turbo? If this is your conclusion you have gone astray. I have little doubt a car with the same power but lighter would be quicker.. Pretty basic there.

That said I never wanted a turbo even before I was a V8. I respect them but like my power band more flat. I like linear power from low RPM all the way to the top. This is why I was supercharged prior.

I dont think people buy a V8 miata for the simply sake of trying to make the fastest way around the track. I could go on as to why I build mine but doubt anyone cares.

I will say that despite your choice be it v8, turbo or supercharged to get huge power it is not cheap. By the time you do brakes, chassis, tires, injectors, internals (depending on power), tranny depending on power, cooling, ECU and such just to mention a few it is expensive. Definately V8 is at the top end of that spectrum. You get 50 dollared to death doing the V8.

I for me table top power from 1500 to 6500 never dipping below 380 foot pounds, coupled with a ECU that is completely open thanks to HPTuners as well as the sound and reliablity of the LSX motor made it the right choice for me.

As for weight I gave up trying to put mine on a diet a while ago. I am a porker according to Emilo at 2512 pounds with me in it but that said still force Viper ACR's to move over on WOT none the less and at that point that is good enough for me.

It will be interesting over the next couple of years to see where V8 guys take the miatas in seach for power. There are quite a few that are now bolting tubos onto V8's and getting north of 550 at the wheel and beyond.

Giddy up.
