3 drivers TBD? Any Word?

emilio700 11-06-2012 08:29 PM

We're working on having live streaming in car video from all 4 cars.

GeneSplicer 11-06-2012 08:47 PM

THAT would be incredibly awesome... the twitter was so/so last year, but if you can pull of streaming live video from each car - would be tremendous - I'll see no sleep during the 25. Doing that in itself requires a dedicated IT guy.

Like I told everyone who complained about the sparse twitter feed, and there were some surprisingly ugly complaints (???), that we were busy winnin'

But yeah, I'll try to get more of the crew posting updates as they come off their shifts.

mr_hyde 11-07-2012 01:24 AM

If we have enough team members maybe we could dedicate someone as a social media manager. That person could make sure no important strategy was inadvertently shared on Twitter/FB. How is the cell service at the track? Last time I was there I recall getting reasonably good 3G on AT&T.

Ryan_G 11-07-2012 12:05 PM

Emilio, have you gotten my email regarding this event? It is slightly time sensitive so I want to make sure it actually made it to you.

Yes. Should have final roster set today.

ccsc 11-07-2012 09:54 PM

Emilio the Federal is only listed as 205's in 15's - are you running 17's?

We make 15" wheels and that's what we race Miatas on.

Yeah what I meant was I don't know what CCSC is implying - 205/15 sounds fine to me. He seems to think that's a problem.

-Ryan

ccsc 11-08-2012 08:09 PM

no problem at all, just thought they'd be running biggest rubber possible.

ThePass 11-09-2012 01:59 AM

Shooting in the dark here, but I would guess that it's a blend of classing points which IIRC factors in what tire you're on, and possibly strategy - I don't know if you're allowed tire changes - as in switch tire size/brand in pits, or if you have to select one type of tire and stick to it, but the 205 would be good in the wet if it started raining, and it is a North CA race in the beginning of the rainy season.

With just a wee big bigger budget than y'all.;)

mr_hyde 11-09-2012 01:54 PM

~$250k. Will 949 have that much money on the Tarmac combining all 4 cars, the team, consumables and hardware? We'll have 4x the amount of feet on the podium! :2cents:

$250k is just the basic car. That doesn't include the D/A system probably $80k. Renting TRP a few times, flying an entire team over from Germany a few times. This is a million dollar effort. My guess is you could fit three ILX projects within the cost of the base TT-S RS.

Our budget for everything, four cars, is a fraction of that too.

With enough money thrown at it a CJ-7 could win overall.

Hell yea. Look at the Suzuki Escudo (AKA Geo Tracker here in the States) that slaughtered Pikes Peak for many years.

No one has EVER looked at a geo tracker and thought "THAT would make a great race car!"

 spend what youve spent on whatever project youve been working on, on something like, oh say, a honda crx, and youde have a car that could click off laps faster. Downsides? No drifting, and your front tires wear slightly faster. Big deal...

Emillio, Sonny, Sav, Alex, and everyone else, I wish you guys much luck! I wish I could be there to help out, even if all I did was go on grub runs lol I know! Ill dress my kids up in 949 team colors and we will be team mascots :winner: Ill be following fb the weekend of for updates!

Mobius 11-10-2012 11:50 PM

I am interested in the 595 RS-R choice. Can you elaborate a bit on the reasons for that?

joeldc13 11-11-2012 10:55 AM

I am also interested in why you have choosen this tyre, I didn't know that it was available in the US, here in Europe it's becoming quite very popular, very very good grip level, slighly under a R888 in the same dimension but for a fraction of the price (150 euros each R888 vs 70 euros for the federal). In France it's beeing considered like the best cheap trackday tyre for the mx5, not the better one but the best quality/price rate. So I'm a little surprise to see it in a racing environment.

But one thing important, it has quite good longevity, I made more than 10 trackdays with a set of 4 and I think that I can do another one with them, where a R888 don't last me more than 5 trackdays.

Gryff 11-11-2012 11:50 AM

In for results as well! I need new tires soon as it is, I would love to see what you have to say about these.

billybobster 11-12-2012 02:30 AM

Some video of the Audi TTRS in action. It's built for the German VLN series and the 24hrs. of the Ring, so designed around endurance.

Pretty cool the 25hrs. of Thill is getting a factory-backed effort from Audi. Interesting decision marketing wise, Audi spending a lot of money to send one of these over (car goes back to Germany in March). Probably the rationale is marketing to the European market - "we went to the US to beat Porsche." Means there should be a well-made documentary coming from Audi about the race.

At least six Audi Club SF area HPDE drivers have gotten TTRS's (most of them instructors). They all seem to love it.

What is the "Audi Club SF?" Audi Club San Francisco? Is there a national Audi club similar to PCA (Porsche Club of America) and do they put on HPDEs?

Yep. Welcome to the Audi Club North America

They put on a good show, at least on the East Coast.

I think all the ACNA regions do HPDEs. ACNA Golden Gate does them at Thunderhill, Sonoma and Laguna Seca. Very well run events. Very non-Audi friendly too. BMWs and Porsches and even Miatas are seen. Seven instructors I can think of run Miatas (including me - 2008 Audi A4 Avant still my beloved DD).

I have helped Navid since it was the 13hr. (I have missed a few years, its cold and usually a rough long night). I just kinda help fill in the missing gaps and rather not have any real title or job.

I would like to drive but driving is expensive just for the equipment. Someday I will find the cash to go on the track (other than driving school years ago). anyone want to sponsor?

I will find you guys on grid, if you need anything fell free to give me a call, text or hunt me down.

Anyone know what happened to the Audi? Crashed or broken?

Not sure, but I heard transmission issues. Their facebook says they are done.

What happened to 949? was it a pit? I have a live feed of pit, and never saw them go by while cj passed them 4 times... but I could have easily missed it.

Im assuming thats local time as opposed to race timing? that would explain the issues with nemo.

Actually that should be EST. Sorry for the confusion.

emilio700 12-09-2012 02:49 AM

Just got up from 3hr nap. Sitting in RV alone looking at race monitor. Nemo is out of the race, blew its second engine. Kitty was the car to beat but a brake problem put it too far back to catch up. Super lost time with a radio problem and off pace stint but getting longer runs from its Toyo RR tires than the front runners on Hoosiers. Hoping we can cycle our fastest drivers through it and claw our way back.

I drove about 8 of the first 9-1/2 hours then slept (sorta). Time for some coffee andcseat time. Ill try to check in around 3am when I get out.

Oh yeah, Andrew Kidd and Keith Tanner are machines.

GeneSplicer 12-09-2012 09:03 AM

Wow - 494 laps in, under yellow, Crusher is leading by a lap over CJ Wilson... this is gonna be down to the wire.

Now under green, watching the timing, seems Crusher is gaining and about to put a full lap on CJ - trailing by about 12 sec.
