Any Oregon Raceway Park members?

Anyone an ORP member? I am contemplating trekking up there for an HPDE day at the end of July.

curly 06-11-2012 01:41 AM

Member? No. Occasional visitor, yes.

Which day are you considering, the July 28th one? Most of the locals just attend Porsche or BMW club days. They're fairly relaxed, well ran, and cheaper. The Team Continental and SCCA days can be a little more spendy, crowded, and with less run time.

There's a July 14-15 day with PCA that I may be attending. My schedule rotates, so I have lots of days off but they're not always easily predictable.

See here for a few more details?

No matter what though, make the trek, you won't regret it.

curly 06-11-2012 01:45 AM

And what car are you planning on bringing? I need to know if I should bring my tail pre zip-tied between my legs or just cut my balls off completely.

Savington 06-11-2012 03:23 AM

Just Rover for now, but if Theseus runs I'll bring it too.

Rover is the priority right now - all of the California lap records are set between November and February so that's when I hope to have Theseus back up and running with all of its upgrades.

I haven’t been there yet either. Still trying to figure out a day to do the Ridge as well. Trying to fit it in with a road racing and minimal autocross schedule this year I’m finding some hard limits to money and time.

Broke the PRO3 BMW E30 I was using one race it still sits with the engine out of it So I bought a spec Miata that hasn’t raced since 2006 that I’m trying to get prepped while at the same time rebuilding and swapping back to the 2.0L in the beast for National tour Autocrosses the first couple weekends in July.

Buttonwillow chump car next weekend as well.

My car hobby seems to be intense but lacking clear focus this year.

Brian Kelly and I well be at ORP Thursday with Auto Cross Club Oregon for their once a year HPDE. Went last year for the first time at the track and it is nice and very tech. with alot of elevation change. Hope they have some facilities in this year, it gets hot.

Andrew another track you well really want to visit soon is The Ridge Motorsport Park, It is a GREAT track.

curly 06-11-2012 12:36 PM

Really? I've heard mixed reports. Worth it if you're close, but if, like me, it's the same 2.5 hour drive away as ORP it's probably not worth it in the long run. Just from the videos I know I'm going to enjoy ORP more.

jmann 06-11-2012 01:14 PM

diff. strokes, It's one of my favorite tracks along with Thunderhill.

stormin'norman 06-11-2012 01:39 PM

The Ridge is mediocre at best..

ORP July 14-15 with PCA. Going to be a great weekend. Hopefully see some of you there.

jmann 06-11-2012 01:53 PM

What didn't you like about it?

stormin'norman 06-11-2012 05:50 PM

Flow. There's hardly any flow or rhythm compared to ORP. I'd say about 60% of the track is enjoyable. What I really don't care for is the "corkscrew" complex that is T13-14. It's so painfully slow. I don't care what car you are in.. even my Lotus friends aren't able to carry speed through there.

Once you've driven ORP CCW.. it's hard to be pleased elsewhere.

jmann 06-11-2012 07:57 PM

I have driven ORP. I think most of the Ridge flows quite nicely, especially going up the hill through 2,3 4,5, that is a high speed blast, turn 6 [carousel] is a really nice tech. one that can be power steered around and the compression into 8 and the link inbetween that and 9 is really tech. and fast if done right and then its balls out into 10 up the hill into 11, thenit slows some after that with some sharp cornersuntil you come out of the corkscrew, but hitting 16 just right so you are screaming down the front straight is fun. Most everyone I've talked to says it is one of their favorite tracks that they have been on. Don't get me wrong, I like ORP, hell I like any track where I can go fast. My favorite is still Thunderhill, and Texas motorsport ranch is also a nice one.

I am an Infineon fan, so my standards are impossibly high :giggle:

We'll be there July 28th.

Mobius 06-11-2012 10:44 PM

I will be at ORP on the 14th of this month. 7/28 actually fits my schedule, I might be able to attend.

I haven't had the pleasure to head South yet. Just the usual suspects here in OR and WA.

That said I think ORP CCW will still stack up well.

What club is running 7/28 at ORP? Not seeing it on msreg.com..

edit: Oh and ps Andrew.. I was that crazy guy who emailed you last week about built 1.6L advice with which you replied bp vvt or bust.

Just putting a screenname to a email.. so hello. :D

Mobius 06-12-2012 12:33 AM

It's not on Motorsportsreg, which is why I missed it as well. It's an ORP Club day. Minimum event commitment for being a member in the ORP Club is ... one event. I will talk to them on Thursday while I'm there. I am concerned that, depending on format, I am not yet experienced enough to sign up. It will be my 5th event at that point.

jmann 06-12-2012 12:44 AM

Mobius Do you have to be a club member to run or can anyone run?

Ahh an "owners" day.

In that case.. come join ORPCA in July and Sept. We put on good weekends. :)

Don't forget your annual inspection either..

Mobius 06-12-2012 02:10 AM

My point was that anyone can sign up for a single ORClub event. It's 350 for the day. Includes lunch. It's just not listed on MSR. So I may go, unless it's an open track unlimited passing type event, which may be beyond my current comfort zone.

Anyone can run - you just have to become a member by paying your moneys like anyone else. According to the website, you can do it on a single-event basis. No 5-day minimum or anything like that.
