I wouldnt really worry about getting enough rear downforce with SM aero rules. I'm trying everything I can up front this year just to match my wing. The car is slower if you drive with the top up because it under steers worse at speed than with the top down. Its really easy to make more downforce with the wing than you'll ever be able to make with a 6" splitter + canards, I mean my wing is physical iteration 1 and wasnt tested in a wind tunnel and over powers a max legal splitter, can you imagine what it would be if I threw 10k at it rather than just a few weeks of CFD and $600 in supplies?

So I've possibly learned something new that effects my current setup.....

There's been threads about how a 195 r1r isn't any faster on a 8 vs 7.5, well I believe a 195 r1r is faster on a 7 than either 7.5 or 8. Constantly on the shoulder of the tire, more heat, and then the grip falls off. I have some data on this claim, but I hope to get more this weekend at another local.

So now I'm in search of some 15x7s to mount my toyos on. I wish Hankook would of gotten their **** together and I wouldn't have this issue! I'd be back on my 9s with the revised RS3..... faster and happy!

Had Chris Wells in the car with me for my first ever lap. I did a clean run

So I've finally got a chance to try out auto-x and I'm definitely hooked. I've done one event with SCCA and one with MSCC (Martin Sports Car Club). I've run in Novice class in both events and placed 3rd out of 36 in the SCCA event and then I placed 1st out of 23 in the MSCC auto-x. Needless to say I have been bumped up to BSP early because I was too fast, 2nd place was ~2 seconds behind me. There also doesn't seem to be too much local competition for BSP. I was 0.2 seconds behind the guy that took 1st in BSP at my second event. I do have a little experience driving 60mph go karts at the local rental track, so that definitely helped with my learning curve.

Some pics because everyone likes those things. I'm still running the jittery stock MSM suspension with 15x9's and 225 RS3's.

Were you not in BSP base class to start with? Intercooler and wheels would have done it from what is visible.

Only a few of us have real good info on full BSP builds if you are interested look us up.

Frank, I've been following your build and canyonfives and you both inspired me to get out and drive. I was told by my local SCCA club that all new drivers are placed in either Novice Street Tire class or Novice Race Tire class on their first 3 events depending on what tires they are running.

Can someone tell me what the hell is going on out there? I'm watching the results, and so much of it just isn't making sense.

Is it just a straight up power course or what?

One of the courses is (east?), the other one favors smaller cars so it kind of evens out. I forget which is which. But yeah some weird stuff like an NC near the top of DP and the MSM in 2nd in BSP are really odd. And the 300zx in stx, 350z murdering stu, etc.

The Barbry 323 shitting on the 2002 and various VWs...

The current leader in SMFL's time being good for ~10th in SSM, etc...

My head is spinning trying to figure this out.

Rachel is a pretty good driver (pretty hot too), she gives me a hard time in that car locally. AND both non-ladies drivers of that car normally raw time me and Brian gets pretty close to Panda's times.

The 323 was awesome.

I'm sure the 323 was awesome, i saw the Purple People Eater run a few times and it was pretty insane for an FSP car. When he ran up at Grissom a couple years ago it was ugly massacre and i remember him stomping SMF times as well.

Drop 300lbs off the car, and it's probably stupid.

300zx in STX - it is the alien driver, not the car

Looks like October 4, 5, and 19.

I'm going to try to have the MX6 out for them, but the 4th and 5th may not be feasible. We'll touch base before then and maybe figure out something.

Who would have thought that an Elise would have been the hot ticket in the rain.

Its light like the miata but can fit the big boy tires like the rx7s. Honestly if I was going to spend allthemoney in ssm I would be building an elise.

that miata was quite close to the Elise! one 10th quicker in the first heat and 5 10ths off in the second.
