A Late question from a noob...

Is the only reason no one can mount a soft top due to the way the top latches to the windshild frame?

Hope someone is listening...

Savington 12-22-2010 10:12 PM

Depends on cage design - the top folding mechanism may interfere with the bars in some places on some cages too.

Hardtops are faster anyway. ;)

moonshadowmetals 12-23-2010 10:28 AM

Hard tops look better anyway.
By the way Mr. Sav, what catigory do most of the people on this site compete in. When I llok at the pic of your miata I am not sure which SCCA catagory you would fall into. Do most people only do track days?

curly 12-23-2010 10:52 AM

Track days or time attacks. Rules for that are: build the fastest fucking car you can. One timed lap is all that counts, with hardly any consideration of consistency. I believe one of the reasons he went this route was he realized how short his range was once he upped the power. 2-3mpg in a higher horsepower turbo miata is 15 laps at my local circuit, using ALL of the Miata's 11.9 gallons. At a reasonable 1:20 time, that's 19.95 minutes of run time, which is shy of ONE typical session at a track day. Boggles the mind really, I was using about a third of a tank pre-turbo per session.

Different factors like engine size, tires selection, and the amount you've stripped your car put you in different categories, such as street, prepared, and unlimited. Other than that it's fairly vague compared to some SCCA/NASA groups.

Feel free to correct any errors in my explanation Sav.

I have been lurking for a short time now and am amazed at what you guys have done to your miatas. Mine is STOCK, right now. I hope to turbo it with a small turbo (DSM). Work on the susepension. And maybe start out doing AutoX here in Vegas. Eventually I hope to have a SSM/SCCA capable miata.
My background is offroad so building cages etc. is not a problem. In other words, short on money but long on personal time.
Thanks for the reply. Trying to learn who is into what, and what they have done that works, and how to apply it for my eventual application.

Why keep the dash if you go this far?
