Default Breaking my road course virginity!

Well for memorial weekend me and my brother in law are off to MSR-C to get some track time in!!

He will be running in his 79 Datsun 210 and I will be following in my mx5. I have never been on a road course myself but only rode passenger so I am pretty stoked. I am use to being behind the wheel of a dirt track car and hoping to get on the asphalt here in the next few months fully equipped.

I don't have much done to my car, just a built 1.8 swap n/a with a godspeed radiator. Everything else is stock, yes I will be running on 14" daisies! Basically I want some track time and to have the car in 1 piece when it's done!

Here is the last pic I will have if I demolish the car, at least it looks good for its first time on the track lol

I'm jealous! My first day was an amazing experience, I hope yours is too.

A stock Miata, in good mechanical condition like yours, is the perfect car for at least the first several events.

Enjoy it!

Cheers,

Will

I figure if I can get use to slipping and sliding around on these 185 tires then the upgrades of suspension and wheels/tires will be a huge difference! I have always been told if you can learn to drive a bad car good, you can drive a good car much better.

That's probably not going to happen.

I had a minor mechanical issue with the MSM last summer and had to put the stock NA into emergency service at the last minute (long story). I didn't have anything except basic maintenance and the NT-01s from the MSM. It might have been the most fun I had all season. It was so fun, I put a cage in the car, cut 300# out of it and tripled the power...

Track is awesome! Spun out once but for my first day it's going very well considering my brother spun 3 times!

A lot of porsche/lotus's running around, they are eating me alive. I can't wait to get my turbo, wheels/tires and suspension. I'm starting to love this place

1.7 counter clockwise. We gave up after the GTR spun off track and caught the grass on fire. We will be back tomorrow!

I have seen a lot of people smoking grass while racing dirt track or motox. My friends dad told me he use to do it so if he fell of his bike the pain didn't hurt then lol

Track time was great. Today we raced with 1 only car, a spec miata! Sad to say he ran 8 second laps faster than me I was just enjoying being out on the track. I can't wait to get my turbo going and start my suspension/wheel project.

it's hard to tell in that pic, but is that a green/blue spec? that guy is fast, been on the track with him before so don't feel too bad.

Most fun I had at Tws last month was battling a buddy in 2 TxMC street class miatas. His car was a tiny bit faster on the straights, but was only his 2nd time at that track, 1st time in his miata, and needed work on a couple brake zones. Once I was in front, he was able to see where he was braking too early and picked up 3sec.! We kept a gtr at bay for a few laps because we would pull bus lengths on him at every fast or technical corner. Lol, poor guy. Gaurantee he never posts that video. Crazy thing is, my buddy kevin was almost 10 seconds faster in his '01 miata, than in his '07 STI! That thing was understeer city.

Congrats on your first track day. I remember my first. It is addicting, so much so that I ended up with a spec miata now.

No sir, that is my brothers Datsun 210, the spec car was white with blue stripes

This is his 79 Datsun 210. He has gold BBS racing wheels whenever he doesn't have the street tires on.

Only other pic I had was of the fire, it was a close one!

At my last TT a C5 with a big *** splitter became a 120mph lawn mower. He got it back on track without much trouble but a lap later the grass in his engine bay caught fire

After putting it out we dug a 5 gallon bucket worth of grass out of the bay. Yet another good reason to duct your heat exchangers!

Anyways, sorry to derail your thread. Sounds like you had an awesome time! Welcome to the club, now empty your pockets.
