Default first time at a dragway ever 1/8th mile

First time ever at a drag strip... we went to shadyside in shelby NC. Best run of the day was 9.085 my launches were horrible due to my tiny street tires and cold track. Everyone was having traction issues but I was the fastest import... the temp was a little over fourty. I was trapping low nines all day.. these times were taken on nine pounds of boost I feel if I get drag radicals, turn boost up and figure launches out I could trap low eights maybe high sevens. I have videos and time slips I will postlater

Nice runs, just needs more boost! I'm sure a tire would help, but I think you're going to need a good bit more MPH to get anywhere close to the 7's. The one pass I put my old miata in the 7's was a 7.96 @ 93.1, making a little over 300whp. Miatas aren't good at anything straight.

I have to agree with pdexta. It is not a good drag car but it is still alot of fun. I have run 8.2 @ 95 when I was making 290 whp. It is a blast to see peoples faces when a "Girls" car just spanked NSX, Prelude or civic...lol

Ha ha!!!! Nice runs guys! I really needed some drag radials to hook up, I would just blow tires off on take off or underlaunch. Anything over 6k rpms I was spinning. Did you guys run street tires?

Back around 1995 I read about a guy who was married and had a couple kids and a Dodge minivan, so since he couldn't afford a Buick GN he put nitrous on the minivan and took it to the drag strip. He regularly humiliated Vettes, granted that's when 14 second 1/4 times were the norm and 12s was fast.

My best pass was on 215/45/16 Kumho XS's. Never tried a drag radial, but a sticky street tire hook up pretty well, of course it's always 90 degrees when I go to the strip down here and I'm sure that helps.

I am going to have to disagree that a Miata makes for a poor drag car. The only thing poor about the Miata is it's lack of power from the get go. The key is good tires, but only if you are making enough power to turn them.

My best pass was a 8.20 at only 84 mph with a 1.71 60' time. I was probably making barely over 200 hp. The difference was I was running slicks. I was almost 8/10 slower on radials.

People who say that a miata is a poor drag car is because they're the type of miata owners that would rather stand at a cone in a parking lot for 8 hours so they can drive their car like 3 laps for under 5 minutes.
