He also had an unexplained interest in certain cars/drivers. And not in the "building a narrative to make the sport more interesting" way that one would as a professional announcer, but just like "okay here we go with so-and-so. Wow they are going for a hot lap!".

Ryan had to battle out for the win in that last session. Set a new PR and locked up the LRWD win right at the end. A nail biter
Posted a video on our Facebook page. We already had the win locked up so we tried something crazy. Put our S1 a aero on the car with the 245's but kept the flat-bottom and diffuser. the car was tight all weekend so we are trying to free it up and gain some of the top end speed we were missing. So yeah lot more top-end speed but way less grip. Way. Less. Grip. It's funny how my reference was so distorted. Driving the massive aero both days then switching to a full flat bottom, 245 A7's, S1 aero and it felt like "low" grip. So anyway the low drag experiment ended up being about 2 seconds slower. on my second flight lap I lost a rod bearing in the very last turn and coasted across the line.
Sonny was second in SRWD in our GT350.
I won URWD again in Vegas.

Secondly, do you have plans to stick with the BP engine for future TA events, or do you feel like you've hit the limit on what the BP can sustainably do in this environment? At this point you have a 110% built, low life(8-10 fliers? If that?), high boost engine, yet still note you really needed 2-300 more HP to really take full effect of that aero. Is something like a group effort with Kmiata(turbo K would make more power with more life for about the same costs, est) something you've considered, or is this too fresh on the heels of this event to consider?

I got to watch a bunch of it, and it was great to see you guys push the state of our weird art.
I'm most curious to see how your lessons learned inform the space we all occupy: how to have the maximum fun for the least dollar and time investment. Congrats & thanks for continually giving back guys.

Was watching all day, congrats to the 949 crew and Ryan for some great results.
I hate to speak for Emilio, but I really think this is the limits of the BP. I'm sure he could squeeze out...50hp? Let's say he gets a magical 500whp out of a BP, all with a usable power band. We'd all be floored, but I'm thinking with all of the aero he had with the triple element wing, splitter, and flat bottom, he'd rather have 200-300 more hp, not 50-100.

Andrew and I are already scheming a sleeved, dry sumped, EFR7163 fed 600whp motor for next year. we have been running 10W30 Amsoil Dominator forever. But that's not enough viscosity for the power levels were reaching. We are going to switch to 15W50 Dominator and see if that solves the rod bearing issue. Dry-sump will free up some additional power, allow us to lower the engine and fix the crankcase ventilation issues were having.
The flat bottom, diffuser and rear wing all worked perfectly. We just need to find a way to make a bit more front downforce with less drag. A more efficient narrower front end will do it.
The other factor is that Vegas is a tank. It's built just short of an FIA cage. Our comp weight was about 2450. The car we ran last year was about 200 pounds lighter. Vegas could run the 25 hours of thunderhill tomorrow, and it would be a far safer stiffer and better handling car than anything with a plain Spec Miata style cage. But all that is too much for time attack. The right way to do an unlimited car is to hack away everything but the bare minimum required for the rules and build tubular frame extensions. Besides building a lighter, stiffer, safer car it opens up room for packaging and aero. We have such a tub behind our shop that we have started on but it has a long road ahead of it to reach the planned goal. If things work out in 2019 we will try to finish it and take it to COTA and BRP. The goal for that car is to be under 2000 lbs with driver.

Now that would be a cool project to see. Also interesting seeing just the qualitative reaction of going from a high downforce setup to a... still-higher-downforce-than-most-Miatas setup. Ha.
Emilio did you happen to be logging oil pressure? With the new levels of sustained lateral force Vegas could achieve I'm wondering if starvation has finally started to become an issue, and if it's a possible contributor to losing that rod bearing. Or does the Prather baffle keep the pickup sufficiently covered?
