Just did my second weekend on DTC60s. They perform very similar to carbotechs- very smooth initial bite and good modulation, unlike the older hawk compounds I've tried. Unfortunately, they still leave the difficult to remove deposits when the wheels get wet. I drove to the track Friday morning in the dry and it rained non-stop the rest of the weekend other than 3 dry sessions. Went to clean the wheels this morning with meguiars wheel cleaner and a soft brush and this is what's left. It comes off with fingernail scraping, but not easily. I'm going back to carbotechs... The extra cost up front is worth it to not worry about trashing wheels.

I'll have this set up for sale soon if anyone is interested. 1.6 brakes- dtc60 front and rear with centric premium rotors. 2 weekends on all of it.

I have had an amazing experience with cobalt pads. I run an xr3/xr5 stagger on stock 1.6 brakes on ra1s. They last forever only downside is dust which cleans of easily as long as you don't let it sit and coat the wheel.

I left Carbotech dust on my wheels for approaching 6-7 months, and it still came right off with no damage to the finish.

Back when I had my E30, a local track guy was selling a set of E30 M3 wheels for pennies and I grabbed them in case I ever 5-lug swapped my car. They were in boxes and covered in carbotech dust, and I was lazy and stuck them in a corner of the garage. This was 4-5 years ago. I finally sold them last month and the dust wiped off with a towel when I went to take pics lol.

Lets throw a different option into the mix here...

I have been quite impressed with the Porterfield R4 pads that we have on our 24hr of lemons nissan sentra. Granted, this 1900lb 100whp car is not anywhere near the same as my 2400lb 220whp miata... but i walked away from the Sentra with a huge level of confidence!

Has anyone tried the R4 on their track miata? what were your impressions? Has anyone tried them on the 11.75 BBK? How do they compare to the almighty DTC-60?

I've been running Porterfields on my car- 3 track days and no complaints thus far... they seem to have good power, modulation and I can't make them fade on track. Also dust doesn't seem to be too bad to clean off.

my car is barely above stock HP levels so I'm not sure how they will react on a turbo car going a lot faster.

I think Hawk's HT-10 compound was dismissed too quickly. I've been running HT-10 pads for a year or so now. I DD them and have 5 track days on them. The dust is non corrosive, they have plenty of torque for a my application (195/50/15 dunlop ZII), and I have yet to feel any fade.

This is all just my opinion. I really like my HT-10s because they work great for me. I know DTC-60 might generate faster lap times but since I don't race, it's worth the compromise to have a DDable, wheel friendly pad.

I will be disappointed if hawk phases them out. They are the ideal pad for my application.

DTC-60s are the superceded pad of HT-10s.

Pyr0monk3y 10-16-2013 10:26 AM

So are they no longer making HT-10s?

Dunning Kruger Affect 10-16-2013 10:30 AM

They're phasing them out in favor of the newer DTC-60 compound. The DTC-60 is basically just a renamed HT-10.

Dusts like crazy? Check
Super torquey? Check
300-1500F temp range? Check
$120 for a set of fronts? Check

This might be a little late, but back when I did the research for the Mini 11" rotors these are the weight numbers I collected for the different rotors. No doubt the Wilwoods are the lightest. The Mini's are a hell of a lot cheaper than the 11" Willwood friction rings. If the 11"'s were only as cheap as the 11.75"'s it would be a no brainer. One of my constraints was that I am a cheapass and wanted to run OEM 15" wheels without monster spacers (car sees 90% street use). 11.75" needs new wheels, backspaced to fit or lots of spacers, but really is the only option for the track junkie. I would not recommend doing anything with the factory caliper. The 4 piston willwoods are well worth the reduced cost for DT-60 pads.

Rotor weights
1.6 Miata 8.5lbs
1.8 Miata 10lbs
Corrado 12.65lbs
Mini 11" 12.3 lbs
Mini 11.5" 15.5 lbs
11" Wilwood 7.9lbs +2lbs (hat) = 9.9 lbs
11.75" Wilwood 8.1lbs + 2lbs (hat) = 10.1 lbs
