+1 on splined hub hate. Non indexing, sticky, wobbly shit design. I don't care if they are made from unicorn tears to milspec tolerances, it's a shit design.

Most our cars use between a 20-30mm spacer. Ebay. Momo 5702 steel or Daikei cast adapter, depending on usage.
Momo 78's almost exclusively, usually 350mm.

We started using NRG QR hubs years ago after I paid retail for a Works Bell QR hub and was amazed at how well it worked. Equally amazed at how they could charge $380 for them. Every car on our team runs the same QR hub. This allows quick interchange between cars. This became quite useful when we often ran multiple cars in endurance races with drivers doing stint 1 in car A then stint 2 in car B. Pile of spare steering wheels on pit wall all wired with the same PTT button.

Conservatively, I'd estimate our team has something like 10,000hrs on these including 7x Thunderhill 25 hrs and maybe 50x WERC 3hrs an not a single hiccup. One of my oldest ones, got a little dirty and felt slow to "snap" in. Cleaned it with some IPA (not beer), added some tri flow and it's been fine for years since.

Honestly, it stings a bit to be a customer of NRG buying what is blatant copy of the Works Bell but it is 1/3rd the price and works. My answer (rationalization) is that Works Bell should offer a Chinese or even Taiwanese version for say $199 to get some of their market share back. I know what it costs to make something like this. Using ABEC 5 bearings and 7075 T-6 I could make these and sell for $159 at a profit. So no good reason for WB to charge what they do other than typical Japanese home market stubbornness.

I would strongly suggest a sparco/momo adapter hub, they are a collapsible design. as the works bell is not. I think they cost about the same. I personally did have a works bell hub adapter fail on me. the casting cracked right in half. that was on a ls1 miata with no power steering (very hard to turn the wheel)

Not using a WB adapter, never have. I prefer the collapsible Momo 5702 steel adapters. The car pictured just happens to have a cast adapter, I think because we needed to run electrical connections through it at some point.

Has anyone successfully ran the PTT through the horn connectors on the QR? We worked on this project for several events and could never get the static out of it. We think it's because of the slip ring connector, but didn't know if anyone else found a solution.

yes I made mine work. until I pulled my airbag sensors out and at some point disconnected the horn wiring since the two are combined. I still havent found where I created the break in the horn wiring. You connect both horn button wires to the two contacts on the QR, you connect 1 QR wire to the horn wire from the clock spring, and then you ground the other one. I just ground it to the hub adapter which normally will make an electrical connection to ground through the steering column.

Dragging this up. Are there any decent aftermarket options for a steering wheel with airbag? All I found was wood rimmed Moss Miata stuff.

Yes. There was some German steering wheel maker whose wheels had airbags and fit Miatas. Search and you'll find them

Searching for 'german' was of no use. Only pulled up this thread. Would need a usable keyword to find data. This year old thread. Which I bumped, when I found it by searching.
