I talked with the Conti guys when at Barber in the spring - only way to get them new is at the track - and you might as well buy them from Hoosier (same tire anyway) - They wanted $250/tire - my thought was I'll just buy 275/35s then
It would be hard to buy the contis new since, like Gene said you have to be at the track to buy them. They are not the same as the Hoosier R6. The Contis do not have to be D.O.T. approved so they are constructed a bit differently than the R6. In my experience they have the same or more grip than an R6, they are easier to drive than an R6 and they last much longer.

I also have 2-3 sets of the 225/45/15s so if you would like to stock up, PM me.

So I was 'told' they were the same tire - I probably crossed that with same manufacturer.

I think the Connti's will be fast. Slick is sooooo much better than treaded.

I have a brand new set of 225/??/15 NT-01's sitting in my basement. They have been down there a couple years though. (My track project stalled) Always stored indoors in Tire Totes at room temps.

Spoolin has ran the bfgr1 and liked it but I think it only comes in a 225/50/15.
I certainly havenít noticed that much difference in lap time between RA-1ís and NT-01s in terms of performance. The only difference is the Toyos need to be shaved down to between 4 and 6/32 otherwise they turn into gooey ***** of flying rubber on the track the Nittos start at 6/32 new and donít need to be shaved.

I recently set a new personal best at the local Pacific Raceway on a set of 225/45/15 RA-1ís that I had been driving on as my street tires since February 9.2 seconds below the spec miata lap record at a 1:32.5

The problem I see is NT-01ís and RA-1ís are both made in the same plant in Japan. I think they both have the same production issues due to the tsunami. I think Spec Miat is switching to Hoosier next year as the spec tire due to production issues.

FWIW my comment on the Hankooks was sarcasm. I race against Hustler in the TxMC series so I do not want him to get the Z214 C51 tires because they kick ***.

I am running pretty respectable lap times with the C51s (medium compound) and they are noticeably faster than NT-01s in back-to-back testing. Treadzone was having a blowout sale on them earlier this year and I got four 225/45/15s for $130 a piece, which is a deal. Now they are more like $170-$180 a piece, which sucks because I managed to flat-spot one down to the cords and had to replace it. Tire Rack had them in stock a couple of weeks ago.

Anyhow, if those Continentals (made by Hooiser) are rebadged non-DOT slicks they are good tires and should be really fast as long as they are not cycled out. No, wait I mean they suck ***** and you should not use them... at all... especially at H2R.

They are Hoosier slicks and supposedly the endurance compound. They have 2 heat cycles on them from practice and qualifying.

OK yep I have been looking hard at those tires lately. They should be fast. In fact I will have a set of those (scrubs) at H2R in two weeks. This next TxMC is going to be a lot of fun.

Bob
I believe some regions already are on Hoosiers, but I hope we stay with the RA1's since they last forever.

I've used those Conti tires on my brother's car (290whp 240SX). They are GOOD. Much faster than RA1s/NT01s. I only used them for one weekend, so not sure how they hold up over time. I liked these more than my old V710s, which I liked more than R6s (the 710s tolerate more sliding than the R6s it seems, and I slide a bit). Haven't been able to compare them to A6s yet.

From the NASA forums, due to availbility issues, spec classes can run either tire for the remainder of this season, and hoho only next year.

If they are switching to Hoosiers for spec M, are we looking at spec miata lap records at all tracks being redifined next year since Hoosiers are significantly faster than RA-1s?

No it is supposed to be a treadwear 100 DOT radial of some sort. Rumors are a new size NT-01, or something like that anyway. We are all waiting to hear the final word on it, and waiting, and waiting... There are threads here and on m.n about it. I have googled for more information, even talked to Nitto about it, and found nothing.

Emilio at 949 knows what is going on but is not giving specifics due to being NDA bound or whatever his deal is. Supposedly he saw a prototype at SEMA. The production release may have been delayed by the tsunami in Japan.

It will be great when it happens, but I am done with waiting and am moving on until whatever is going to happen actually happens.

I bet he has done testing too, but has been silenced on the results. I swear I see pics of his cars sometimes on 15x9's with a buldge.
