Dang, that's a great price. Assuming they were just used for qualifying or something (but I imagine the race tires were literally all used up anyway).

FWIW I would say I am not sold on the Hoosier slicks, at least not this set. I cannot get them to go any faster than the Hankook Z214s. If anything the kooks are a little faster.

What pressure and camber are you running them at? The few Honda people I know running them are at something silly like -0.5 to -1* camber. They apparently work best with very little. I'll check on pressures, but they were a little funky too. They also go away after not many heat-cycles, so if you picked them up used that might have something to do with it.

Edit: Are you taking tire temps too?

Double-edit: Looks like good hot pressure is ~30psi, and apparently 1-2psi makes a HUGE difference.

I was using a probe type pyrometer and the temperature spread across the tire was good, warmest on the inside edge, coolest on the outside. The inside edge was about 5-10 degrees warmer than the outside. The track and the weather was cool so I added pressure to get them up to the proper temperature range.

In the last session of the day, third session on the Hoosiers, I had them dialed in and my lap times were improving. But the tires peaked, and then the grip started dropping. Not from getting greasy, just less grip. So I think they were cycled out at that point. The wear indicators are close to being gone.

Temps sound right, at least with the inside being a little warmer. There was also talk that when they get overheated they are just GONE for the day at least, if not just plain done and cycled out. They do apparently fall off pretty hard when they're cycled out, possible you just overheated them?

Yeah it is possible. I tried slowing down by about 10-15 seconds (a lap) for a lap to see if that helped. It did not seem to make much of difference and I pitted immediately after that. Based on the previous sessions temperature measurements I doubt I exceeded 180F, and definitely not 220F (their max temp before they get greasy).

When they peaked they were good, faster than NT-01s by a couple of seconds, but not awesomely better than the Hankooks if at all. I think I am going to try 275/35-15 R6s next. They are working very well for another V8 Miata racing in this area.

I would much rather have 245/580 R80s than a 275/35 R6.

The FA slick you tried is designed for a much, much lighter car, so it's no surprise that you burned them up fairly quickly.

Yep that could have contributed.

Not only much lighter but mid-engined so more weight on the rear tires. The size you're running would have to be fronts so the difference is even greater than the car weights would indicate.

I didn't realize you were using the FA tire. Yeah, that changes things a lot.

So my NT-01s are down to grooved slicks and I want to get another set of something in a 225/45-15. Discount Tire (local and direct) is out of stock and according to the guy I dealt with at the local store, he called Nitto and they said 4-6 weeks before the next batch is available. I like to have a set of something with grooves ready to go in case it rains at an event.

Anyone know where I can get new NT-01s? Bbundy is the only one I know of that has bought a set recently, but he got them from discount tire and as mentioned they are out now.

So if not, I think am down to either a set of RS3s or a set of RA-1s. Tire Rack and some others have RS3s in stock. I have not verified stock yet on RA-1s. RS3s are cheaper than RA-1s, about $200 a set cheaper.

I think I got the last 4 tires Discout had. they came from 3 different stores around the country.

How about Grand AM take offs? I've got a good used set sitting in my garage. I can't guarantee how long they'll last but they should help hold you over until more NT-01s are available. Spoolin2Bars bought a set off of me recently so you can ask him how they did for him. They're also much, much cheaper than a new set of tires...

Anyway, PM me if interested.

Thanks yep I saw his tires and they were working for him. I am all set for slicks since I have a pair already, and a set of new ones on the way. I am looking for the tires I will use to practice on and/or use in the rain.

Contis would be good for practice, not so much for rain...

I bought mine after yours - they only had 2. Luckily I have a couple of semi-decent ones to pair them up with.

This is getting old pretty fast.

Resurrecting this thread to report that I found twelve 225 NT-01s at Discount Tire Direct last week and snatched a set up right away. There was a NASA-TT coming up that was forecast to be wet (and it was) so I was pretty motivated to get some since my other tires have little tread. In fact I was about a click away from buying a set of RS3s.

The date codes on all four tires indicate they were made during the 39th week of 2011. So they are indeed being produced again, post tsunami. The bad news is that Discount Tire seems to be out again.

I bought a set too. I have two new sets, enough to tide me over until they catch up again.

I'm still out of tires. :( I wonder if I'll get a set before NOLA? It kind of sucks, I need tires for the daily, street rubber for the turbo car, and track rubber for the turbo car. Fail.

DTD has more in stock. I bought the last set from the Arizona location but there 12 in Ohio and 8 in Texas. Have fun
