My friend with a c5z was at LS with his performancebox on the same day as me and I thought it would be interesting to compare speed vs distance on our best laps.
His setup (blue line):
c5z
Long tubes with tune.
Crazy wide CCW wheels with hoosier slicks
Coilovers
Driver mod. He's definitely a better driver than me.
My setup (red line):
97 2554r on stock 1.8L with busted studs.
The car was setup to do 14-15psi, but I was only seeing 11 in this session. ~190-200 whp.
FCM Bilsteins 500/325
15x9 6ULs w/ nt01s
I had to pick a common start/finish point so I picked the one that favored him. If you move the point back to turn 1 his time goes up to 1:40.X and I'm doing a 1:44.9. It was hard for both of us to get a clean lap. From watching his videos I can see he is doing a better job of using the whole track.
- His acceleration is significantly better than mine. No surprise there.
- He's getting on the gas a lot sooner in a few of the turn exits.
- I'm a complete wimp in 6.
- Something is funny with his data in 9. He didn't slow down that much after the corkscrew.
Anyways, I thought it was a fun comparison and shows me what areas to improve the next time I go to the track. There's also acceleration data that I can graph if anyone is interested.

I see what you mean in 6, but thats pretty good on your part IMHO. Thats not really a heavy car by normal standards (probably about 3400 with an average guy and the big hoosiers on it) and you had very similar apex speeds.
Circa 380WHP is a wonderful thing
If you had another 30-40 it would have helped a lot (thanks captain obvious I know).

Oh crap. That's humbling. Next time I'll keep the pedal down and see where I end up. I'm only 20mph slower.
I was passing people like they were standing still in 6. It would be cool to see the data from a SM at LS. Maybe I can convince someone to suction cup my performancebox to their windshield along with a battery pack.
Here's acceleration and lateral acceleration. It's a lot easier to mess around with this stuff in the software. I attached my last session in dbn format. The software can be downloaded here: PerformanceBox and DriftBox from VBOX USA

Mike,
If I attend the Miata's at Laguna Seca thingy, you can put the box in my car for a session if you want to. I don't know exact apex speeds of turn 6, but it is a slight lift, back to flat before turn in, you hit 88-89 on a good run at the exit curbing. Both Yepez and I had the same professional coach, so we run a nearly identical line at Laguna.
Sav,
Don't ever again post a video glorifying Ypz! ;-)
